When I convert to adobe pdf from a mail merge word doc, it takes off the border that I have on one of the pages. It is not a zoom problem, but i got the border in on one of the PDF's but it added a blank page to put the border on. I am not sure what is going on here.

Without the document (Word and PDF version) it's difficult to tell for sure.
But you are aware that Word files are not in general meant to keep their exact layout? Depending on particular on the target output (specific printer, converter, ...) there can be small differences in character positioning which can result in different line breaks which can change the layout considerably.
