Adobe Acrobat DC Student and Teacher Edition Not Making Changes

I have Adobe Acrobat DC Student and Teacher edition which I purchased in November 2015.  Up to several weeks ago, it was working fine and I was able to make changes to documents, use the comments feature, etc.  However, because I had a trial version previously installed which launched by default, I decided to uninstall all Adobe software on my computer and download the one I need. I have installed again the Adobe Acrobat Pro Student and Teacher Edition and I included the serial licensing number, but currently it does not allow me to make any changes to the documents.  Instead it prompts me to sign up for Adobe Acrobat Pro DC for $24/ month. I do not want to sign for this option, and to my knowledge I have never been signed to it.  However, at the moment, I cannot editing or combine, or comment or create new files. I would really appreciate your help.

I have MacBook Air OSX 10.11.5

I am running Adobe Acrobat Reader DC 2015

I have Adobe ACROBAT Reader. I am not getting something.  Where is Adobe Acrobat? I thought that's what I have.

Unfortunately, Adobe changed the name of the free (what it used to be called) Adobe Reader to the free Adobe Acrobat Reader - which causes quite a bit of confusion among users. There are two different applications: The free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and then the Adobe Acrobat DC Pro or Standard, which is not free. You are on a Mac, that means that you have Pro, because there is no Standard version for the Mac.

Because you have a Student and Teacher license, we can assume it's for the full version of Adobe Acrobat. When you installed Acrobat, did it prompt you for the serial number? If so, and if you did enter your serial number, make sure that your documents are opened in Acrobat and not the free Reader. You can specify which application should take precedence by right-clicking on a PDF file, thens let "Get Info" from the menu. Now change the "Open With" to Adobe Acrobat Pro, and click on the "Change All" button right below the application selection field.

From now on, when you double-click on a PDF file, it should open in Acrobat and no longer in Reader.

Don't use Acrobat Reader, use Adobe Acrobat.
