Adobe Acrobat Pro X - images are fine, text is blurred

I have searched for an answer to this on the Adobe forums and can't find one (apologies if I missed a thread). When I view PDFs in Adobe on my new Macbook Pro, the text is always blurred but images, particularly, photos, are fine. This includes text in Adobe drag-down menus that I open. In Preferences --> Page Display --> Rendering, Smooth Text is already checked for Laptop/LCD screens (switching it to Monitor does nothing), as are all other options in Rendering. Zooming in or out does not solve the issue. When I check for Adobe updates I'm told it's up to date (version 10.1.6).

What am I missing - how do I fix this?
