The question "how many colours" is ambiguous, and may be variable. Often the answer is millions.

- You should use Convert Colors: there is a (ridiculously) small window in the upper right corner that gives you this info.

- Preflight allows the use of "Droplets", which is a kind of automation.

In this typical case, when a graphist ask about "colors" he means color spaces (RBG…) and/or Inks (C+M+Y+K+spots colors).
