I need to resize a large (29MB) file.  Please let me if I can do that with Reader or what other programs will accomplish that goal.  Thanks! JD

You can't do it with Reader.

Using Acrobat you can use the Save As command to optimize it or the Save As - Reduced Size PDF command, or even the Optimize PDF command.

It is critically important to understand other than certain optimizations that consolidate font subsets, remove metadata, and removed unused space (typically from previously edited or deleted pages within a PDF file that was in fact “edited”), the vast majority of any PDF file size reduction is accomplished by downsampling and recompressing raster image data. Some such downsampling and recompression can be accomplished with minimum effect on the quality of display and print of the resultant PDF raster image content. There are limits to how much file size savings can be accomplished and more importantly, beyond a certain point, quality can suffer dramatically. 29 megabytes may sound like quite a large file size, but depending upon the content, that might be what is necessary to contain the graphical content. Furthermore, when you consider that typical commercial web pages download anywhere between 1 and 2 megabytes for a single page, 29 megabytes for a book might not be all that big.

We did end of getting Acrobat Pro DC .  I appreciate your reminders of what to do using Acrobat.  That app is on our MAC, not my laptop PC, and I don't use it often enough to remember.  You're did good, kid!:)
