I have a word document with 600 pages. when this is converted to pdf by win7/ word 10 it produces a 10Mb file. However when this file is converted to pdf by win10/ word 2013 it produces 18 Mb file. audit reveals that mainly difference is in the embeded font size as shown below.

win7:

while win10 :

Since you are using Microsoft's own PDF creation and not Adobe's, I would most strongly recommend that you contact Microsoft Support since they might have some insight into what's going on. No Adobe software is involved in this problem you are facing and as such, we really can't assist you.

Some further information will help us help you.

(1)     Exactly how are you creating the PDF file in each of the situations? Are you using Microsoft Office's built-in “Save as PDF,” Acrobat's PDFMaker “Save as Adobe PDF facility, or are you printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance? Or perhaps some other method such as Microsoft's “Microsoft Print to PDF?”

(2)     Are you using the same method for both the Windows 7 and Windows 10 scenarios?

(3)     What PDF creation “options” are you using in the Windows 7 and Windows 10 scenarios?

(4)     Give us some more information about the fonts used in this 600 page Word document? Are they TrueType, OpenType CFF, or Type 1 format or perhaps a mixture. (Be aware that Microsoft no longer supports Type 1 fonts beginning with Office 2013 and substitutes other fonts.)

Give us this further information and maybe we can assist further.

There is a “pdf ad-on” installed if you license the full Acrobat product, not just reader. But it is separate from the Office standard “save as” menu item.

Since you have Acrobat Pro I'd recommend using the Add on. That is the Acrobat ribbon in Word, not Save As PDF.
