Re-Ordering Pages In An Existing PDF

Hey folks

I have a stack of PDFs to go through, some of which are 100-200 pages long, that have been compiled in the wrong order....   Is there an EASIER way to reorder pages in a PDF?

It sure would be nice to be able to Copy and Paste pages from the Thumbnail View, or to be able to Right Click and "Make This Page # ___ " from a context menu

Any suggestions?

Cheers!

What method are you using?

The easiest way to reorder pages is by dragging and dropping a page in the thumbnail pane.

Dragging and Dropping on the Thumbnail page is GREAT, provided there's only one page of Thumbnails....   Because the Thumbnail Page doesn't auto Scroll while Dragging....   Which is... to say the least... a drag

On documents that are 100-200 pages long, even Dragging & Dropping is an unworkable mess

Acrobat does auto-scroll, you just need to hit the right spot. The only problem with that is that Acrobat DC scrolls a lot slower (at least on a Mac) than older versions of Acrobat. What I usually. do is to presort the pages that need to be moved towards the end of the document, and then move a whole group. You can also open a new window into the same document (Window>New Window), and then drag from one thumbnail pane to the 2nd thumbnail pane.

If you want to write a script, it's usually easier to copy the pages to a new document (otherwise, you will have to keep track of changing page numbers when you move pages internally).

You are correct!  That "Right Spot" is a PITA to hit, but it does make it Auto-Scroll!   That's progress, of a sort at least!  Cheers

I will continue to hope for a better method though

You don't get any disagreement from me here

The good news is that when you do this often, you have a pretty good feeling for where the mouse needs to be. You can always enter a bug report and hope that the right spot gets enlarged a bit in the future: Feature Request/Bug Report Form

You can drag and drop pages around in the Pages panel, you just need to make sure that you're zoomed out so that the entire page is viewed when you do so.

It's also possible to use a script to move page X to location Y, but not via the right-click menu.

Well, someone will need to develop this custom-made script, including a button to run it from.

It's not a very complicated task... I might do it myself soon.

It would be easy to do in original file and compile it again.

Give an order-wise number to the original file and compile it again, this would be much easier than anything

Thanks

Worth mentioning in case it wasn't realised: if you maximize the Acrobat window, drag the bookmark area to completely cover it, and reduce bookmark size, you can get quite a few. I have 64.

I'm lucky enough to be working with two monitors, and even then, in PDFs with lots of pages it's still not enough

I  have a similar problem.  I have a pdf of several hundred pages and I want to put those pages in chronological order.  Thumbnail is to small to see the doc's dates.  Is it possible to create a folder for each month and then drop the files into their proper months? After this it will be easier to drag and drop the smaller set of pages relating to each month into their order.  I just don't see if it is possible to drag pages into different folders from a single pdf.

Thanks you!

You can create working documents and open themside by side with your main one; and drag into it. Might be what you need.

You can't have an empty document Si make some blank one page documents. You can delete the extra blank page if you're left with it.

Sorry.  I can't understand this.  I make blank documents and drag and drop from the other document with all the pages? That didn't work for me.

Thanks!

Open the big document. Make sure you can see page thumbnails.

Open a blank document. Make sure you can see page thumbnails.

Arrange side by side.

You can now drag between documents by dragging the thumbnails.

There's an another option to re-order in a quickest way.. I always do for my work purposes..

You can mark the the wrong page numbers or create a bookmark (bookmark name as a re-order number) and split it out and combine it again (while you are in the process of combine you have to check the re-order number is in a proper series).

It would helps you easily..

Thanks
