I am running Windows 10 on a windows laptop computer. For some months now I have been unable to successfully update Adobe Acrobat XI pro. The update downloads but fails to install with the error message 1328, saying the update is unable to update a file on C: drive and mentioning that it may have been updated by another program (but I don't run any other Adobe software). I have removed acrobat several times, used the adobe clean-up tool, and reinstalled but still get the same error message.

Hi ,
Try to perform the following steps:
1-Close Adobe updater and Acrobat XI.To close Adobe updater>right click on Task Manager>under Background Processes>click on Adobe Acrobat Update Service>End task
2-Go to "C:\Program Data\Adobe\ARM" and delete all folders from there.
To view Program Data,Open Windows Explorer by pressing Windows+E on your keyboard>click on View(in the top left)>Options>change folder and search options>View>click Show hidden files.folders, and drives>Apply>OK.
3-Re-open Acrobat and choose 'Check for Updates' under the Help menu.

Thanks for your email. I am pleasantly surprised to get it as I was feeling somewhat abandoned by Adobe in the process of trying to get some help. This problem has been with me for most of the time since I purchased Adobe Acrobat XI and has been a real nuscience.
I will try your suggested remedy in the next few days and let you know how it went.

Tried your suggested remedy but with no success. I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat XI and ran the Acrobat cleaner because in the interim I had downloaded at 30 day trial version of Acrobat XI which worked but would not accept my serial number. I reinstalled Acrobat XI from by original disk and ran update after stopping Adobe updater and cleaning out the ARM directory. I got the 1328 error again. I closed Acrobat, closed the Adobe updater, cleaned out the ARM directory and started Acrobat XI and checked for updates. The update appeared and loaded but then wound back and came up with the 1328 error again. Do you have any other suggestions on how I can get my copy of Acrobat XI to update correctly?
Also, every time I try to set Adobe Acrobat as the default program for pdf flies, Windows 10 switches it back to Microsoft Edge. I see this is a common problem but is there a remedy? I can’t find a program called magic thumbnails on my machine although this seems to be a common cause of this problem.
