We purchased Adobe Acrobat X1 Pro for Mac in 2013. I recently purchased a new computer and installed the program but I have had a lot of problems. Recently when I open the program, it asks me to buy Acrobat DC? Why?

Hi,

It looks like you have not licensed your product and that is why you are receiving that prompt.

If it is a subscription kindly activate the software by typing in you registered Adobe credentials and if it is a perpetual license you would need to type in the serial number to license it.

Please reset the hosts file:

Note: You may have to disable you security software to modify your hosts file.

Windows

  1. Choose Start > Run, type %systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc, and then press Enter.
  2. Right-click the hosts file and select Open. Select Notepad for the application to open the hosts file.
  3. Back up the hosts file: Choose File > Save As, save the file as hosts.backup, and then click OK.
  4. Search the hosts file for entries that reference activate.adobe.com (for example, 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com) and delete these entries.
  5. Save and close the file.

Launch Acrobat and it should prompt you for "License the software"

Hi there,

Since we purchased Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and not Adobe DC, why would it prompt us to purchase Adobe DC? If we received a serial number, that would indicate a purchase wouldn't it? Where do we type in the serial number?

What seems to happen is

1. Licensing doesn't work or fails or was never done

2. The app runs as a trial (did it say it was running as a trial? Never ignore this)

3. The trial runs out

4. The app now needs you to license or buy. Since Acrobat XI is no longer sold it invites you to buy DC.

There are other possibilities too, especially if you have any Creative Cloud app.
