update by downloading the files directly and then applying them: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/

This did not work. I downloaded "AcroPro90_efg.exe" that I found on that site. When I ran that, and it asked for my serial number I got the error message "Invalid Serial number" for my legit serial number, [serial no. removed - kglad]

are you trying to update acrobat 9 or install it?

I am trying to install it, then update it. I have moved to a new computer. I installed from my CD, which worked. The CD is 9.0, which is obviously not updated (resulting in likely security hazards). I wish to update it.

you don't need a serial number to update. if you're prompted for a serial number, you're using an installation file, not an update file.
and you can't update acrobat 9 to be secure. adobe stopped issuing updates for it years ago.
ntl, you can update it to the last acrobat 9 update using the link i supplied.

Using the link you supplied, all I could find was the “AcroPro90_efg.exe” file under downloads/other-downloads, on the right, which points me to
https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/acrobat-8-9-product downloads.html#DownloadAcrobat9ProfessionalAcrobat9StandardorAcrobat8Professional
so I guess this is a complete download, not an update.
When I look under “updates”, all I can see that comes close to Acrobat Pro 9 is
Acrobat DC: Only goes back to Acrobat Pro 10
Acrobat Pro Extended: has Acrobat Pro 9 extended, but not Acrobat Pro 9
Where do I find the Acrobat 9 Pro update on the link you supplied?
So, basically, Adobe no longer supports Adobe 9 Pro, even for security, even though that opens up a large hole for Vladimir Putin? Perhaps that should be pointed out to your customers..

You can get the updates for Acrobat 9 here: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/win/9.x/
You need to install them one by one, in ascending order.
And the fact that Acrobat 9 is past its end-of-life is mentioned on Adobe's website on multiple locations. The biggest clue is that they no longer sell it... You use it at your own risk, basically.

OK, I think I see the source of confusion. I was going by the link given in my first direct email from you, which says:
Acrobat 9 will not update

Updating the above reply (it seems this discussion board does not well represent the email chain. You seem to be reading this board, so I will put all my answers here).:

update by downloading the files directly and then applying them: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/updates/ If the reply above answers your question, please take a moment to mark this answer as correct by visiting: https://forums.adobe.com/message/9285556#9285556 and clicking ‘Correct’ below the answer |
That link is not the adobe ftp site. But when I go to “View the full discussion”, that answer gives a different link:

update by downloading the files directly and then applying them: ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/

And that does point to what I need. I think you will want to find out why your email and discussion board are different – it could lead to a lot of confusion.
I presume from the dates on the update files in the web site that you stopped supporting Adobe 9 after May, 2013, and Adobe 11, which is now 5 years old, is the oldest version you still support. Is that correct? If so, I need to buy a new version every 5 years or so.

So, I downloaded and tried to run AcrobatUpd910_all_me_incr.msp to do the first incremental update to my Acrobat Pro 9.0. I get the following message. Please advise.

It was loaded fresh from a CD I bought from you (in the USA). If I look at Preferences/international, I see Application Language: English. Help About looks like this:
