Acrobat opens on its own on Mac mojave

New Here ,
Dec 18, 2018 Dec 18, 2018

This has started to happen to me as well.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC just opens itself at random times on Mac OS 10.14.2. I do not have it as a start-up application and it was not open last time I turned off the computer.

I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro DC until you fix this issue. Very annoying.

So far so good and it has been two days since I unchecked two preferences as per Sean Foushee's post:

< Not sure if this is a permanent fix, but I unchecked two preferences in Acrobat and it stopped trying to open after waking from sleep:
Acrobat > Preferences
1. Internet - Uncheck Allow speculative downloading in the backgroun
2. Updater - Uncheck Automatically install updates (I handle this through the CC desktop manager anyway)

Update: 5 days since unchecking the preferences, Adobe randomly opened by itself on wakeup. Checked the preferences, and they were still unchecked. So back to the drawing board.

Actually it opens when the network connection (wi-fi in most cases) is restored: on startup, on wakeup etc.

How specifically can I uninstall Acrobat so I can prevent it from auto-launching? I have done so via the Manage>Uninstall option in the Creative Cloud app, but the app keep reinstalling itself. So far I have uninstalled it at least four times. It has now become a virus that is infecting my machine since I cannot uninstall it in a way where it does not come back.

I am not the only one that has run into this issue which you will see if you read other messages in this thread.

I’m having the same problem, it is crazy that it re-installs itself automatically!

Out of curiosity, do you have InDesign installed? I had a theory that maybe InDesign requires Acrobat in some way?

Yes, I do have InDesign installed.

I just un-installed InDesign as well, so now I only have Photoshop, Lightroom and Bridge for Adobe apps.

Acrobat has now been uninstalled a total of five times and I expect to appear again any day now.

Hi Karan,

Thank you.

What about Acrobat re-installing itself after being uninstalled? Why is this happening?

Could you try uninstalling from /Applications/Adobe Acrobat DC/Acrobat Uninstaller and see if it works.

I uninstalled Acrobat and InDesign only to find Acrobat reinstalled again this morning, and, again, starting up by itself.

I’m not sure why this thread has been marked as “Answered.”

Like @Ben Willmore I’ve uninstalled Acrobat but it keeps re-installing itself.

@jane-e , @meenakshin83966505 – can we get a real answer from Adobe? This has been going on for months.

I have this same issue...

macOS Mojave

Version 10.14.6 (18G87)

Adobe Acrobat DC

Continuous Release | Version 2019.012.20034

Architecture: x86_64

Build: 19.12.20034.328841

AGM: 4.30.85

CoolType: 5.14.5

JP2K: 1.2.2.43391

I'm using the latest version of macOS and of Adobe Acrobat DC. Even with nothing in the Login Items, Acrobat still launches on start-up.

Just to say that the ‘auto opening’ phenomenon no longer occurs on my iMac. I have not been proactive to stop it happenening, so I have no explanation as to why it has.
