Acrobat opens on its own on Mac mojave

This has started to happen to me as well.

Adobe Acrobat Pro DC just opens itself at random times on Mac OS 10.14.2. I do not have it as a start-up application and it was not open last time I turned off the computer.

I have uninstalled Adobe Acrobat Pro DC until you fix this issue. Very annoying.

Hi All,

Adobe acknowledges the issue of Acrobat Application appearing in the Dock and disappearing on Mac. We are working to fix this issue.

I have this same issue...

macOS Mojave

Version 10.14.6 (18G87)

Adobe Acrobat DC

Continuous Release | Version 2019.012.20034

Architecture: x86_64

Build: 19.12.20034.328841

AGM: 4.30.85

CoolType: 5.14.5

JP2K: 1.2.2.43391

I'm using the latest version of macOS and of Adobe Acrobat DC. Even with nothing in the Login Items, Acrobat still launches on start-up.

Just to say that the ‘auto opening’ phenomenon no longer occurs on my iMac. I have not been proactive to stop it happenening, so I have no explanation as to why it has.

Like @Ben Willmore I’ve uninstalled Acrobat but it keeps re-installing itself.

@jane-e , @meenakshin83966505 – can we get a real answer from Adobe? This has been going on for months.

Actually it opens when the network connection (wi-fi in most cases) is restored: on startup, on wakeup etc.

So far so good and it has been two days since I unchecked two preferences as per Sean Foushee's post:

< Not sure if this is a permanent fix, but I unchecked two preferences in Acrobat and it stopped trying to open after waking from sleep:
Acrobat > Preferences
1. Internet - Uncheck Allow speculative downloading in the backgroun
2. Updater - Uncheck Automatically install updates (I handle this through the CC desktop manager anyway)

Update: 5 days since unchecking the preferences, Adobe randomly opened by itself on wakeup. Checked the preferences, and they were still unchecked. So back to the drawing board.

Do you know if, or, can you tell if in your Mac there is a scheduled tasks folder or a start up program folder that may be associating itself to open with Adobe instead of the right program?

Can you open the Activity Monitor from your launch pad to see the all processes. If you find the suspected process  use

"command-option-escape" to open "Force Quit Applications" and  play around with that too; annotate the app name that seems to be the problem

I would prefer to do this from the terminl with the "top" command and annotate the Process ID (PID) if that is useful for further troubleshooting.

With that info on hand you can then go and  examine all plist files stored in your ~/.config folder.

Open it as text file using your preferred text editor and modify or delete the suspected file. Then save and see if that resolve the issue.

Six months Adobe with no resolution to this problem – bad form considering the CC monthly subscription cost. I've just tried Sean Foushee's Preferences suggestion. I don't wish to delete Acrobat DC Pro because I only occasionally use it, however having it always open automatically when I have not set it to is extremely irritating.

It is not really a six month old problem. Acrobat Pro has this kind of behaviour in its spine. Already ten years ago, I fought long battles with the software, trying to uninstall unwanted extensions from different applications, where it had installed itself without asking for my opinion.

I'm not even a heavy user. I think it is fair to say that I spent more time trying to uninstall extensions and disable updates in Acrobat Pro than I have spent actually using it.

Exact same problem. It auto-launches and then auto-quits often right after waking from sleep. I'm all current on OS and app. Uninstalling the app and will use alternatives since support doesn't seem to be able to figure it out.

UPDATE: I uninstalled Acrobat by choosing Manage>Uninstall in the Creative Cloud app and it has reinstalled itself twice! I uninstalled it on June 23rd when I first posted here, then I was surprised to find it auto-launch yesterday when I plugged a headless HDMI dongle into my USB-C hub, so I uninstalled it again and this morning I opened my laptop to find a message about there was a problem when acrobat was last used and would I like to reopen the same windows as last time. It's feeling like a virus that is infecting my machine. I want it gone and it keeps coming back!

I FIGURED IT OUT!  The only thing you have to do is go into Applications and when you see anything that says 'Adobe', right-click and select Move to Trash.  Empty your Trashbin and then reboot your machine.  Problem solved.

Thanks! to all the people above that played games with Adobe tech support for these past years trying to figure their  product out.  It helped me greatly to determine this software is complete junk and removing it will resolve this.
