Why can't I print pdf files after upgrading to Acrobat 9.

New Here ,
Jun 10, 2010 Jun 10, 2010

Since upgrading to Acrobat 9, I am unable to print pdfs with my Canon ip5000. I have reinstalled my printer and installed the latest driver from Canon. This hasn't helped. I can print pdfs using Acrobat 8.

One last thing to try:

Look for any .plist files associated with Acrobat In main Library > Preference Directory or User >Library Preference Directory remove these files, to trash.

Open Acrobat and see what happens.

Also, while You have set to print, you should see the printer icon in the Dock. double click on it to open it. look and see if the Printer shows

like: http://screencast.com/t/Mzg0ZGFlYWMt

click on Start Print so that that you see this:

before you do if you see any print jobs listed in cue list click on each  to highlight and delete each.

If this doesn't help I am out ideas.

I am having the same issue, but I was already on Acrobat 9 Pro, but after installing the CS5 design Suite I can no longer print PDF's in Snow Leopard, but they all print fine from Preview. I am runing 9.3.2 (just updated from 9.3.1 which wasn't working either). This has only happened since I installed CS5, so I am assuming it is more permissions issue nonsense.

I am using an Epson Stylus Photo R280 and the printer moves like it is ready to print, and then I get an error sayhing rastertoescpll failed

The permissions are fine in Application support, but where else could they be? Maybe somethign to do with printing?

Thanks for the reply. I'm currently using my older version to print

pdfs. Annoying, but at least it gets the job done.

I already had Acrobat 9 Pro before I got CS5, so I haven't had Acrobat 8 installed in ages. And Acrobat 9 worked fine for me up until I installed CS5 Design premium.

I have checked the permissions for every Acrobat folder I can find, and they all have my user attached to them, but I just can't get Acrobat 9 Pro to print! This is so annoying!

When you open a document (word, whatever), and you go to print menu is the Adobe PDF 9.0 as shown in this link?:

http://screencast.com/t/MzkxNTlmM2

If it is, are you able to create a PDF?

If No, do the following:

  1. Locate Printer Utility (if not already on Dock).
  2. Remove the Adobe PDF Print Driver from the list.
  3. Next open Acrobat or Reader.
  4. Go to help menu and choose Repair Installation (http://screencast.com/t/N2E4NjQxYmY)

A new copy of the AdobePDF Print Driver should be installed.

Now open a document and try to create a new PDF.

IF that doesn't work go to website called Code Poetry, download and install a PDF Print Driver  called Cups-PDF.

You have to  open in Acrobat and save as an Acrobat 9 version, before you try to do anything to it. But at least you'll be able to create PDF's

Many thanks for your reply. I can make pdfs using Acrobat 9 from Word

and other software. The problem is printing pdfs on my desktop

printer. If I open the pdf in Acrobat 8 and send it to my Canon

printer there is no problem. If I open the same pdf in Acrobat 9 and

send it to the printer, it tries but doesn't succeed. It doesn't show

an error message, it just keeps trying until I cancel the print.

Do you still think I should try your suggestion using the Printer

Utility?

I though you issue was Creating PDF's.

thry this:

open Printer UtilityDouble click on your printer I've highlighted min in example

http://screencast.com/t/YWFjN2NhM

See if you have any items in Print que if so delete them

And try.  some times it takes a long time to process a File.

And if there is a Bad print job sitting in the que it will prevent the printer from print.

You might download the latest print driver from your printers web site.

remove you printer from printer list then install. sometimes when new applications come out Print Drivers may need to be updated and yes it could affect one application and not others.

Nope, I went into Print and Fax on Snow Leopard and removed my printer, and then installed the newest drivers from Epson, and no joy.

When I try and print from Acrobat, the printer makes a noise like it is going to print, and then the print driver just instantly fails.

Try downloading Adobe Reader and see if it will print from Reader?

If so there is a problem with your install of Acrobat 9.

Also try Apple's Preview or PDFPen.

If it will print from them, Then you have an issue with the acrobat install

You might have to re install from the the CD on this computer.

Before doing so:

go to adobe's website support  dowloads and download every updater for 9.0.

9.1, 9.1.1, 9.2 , 9.2.1, 9.2.2, 9.3, 9.3.1, 9.3.2 (all of them).

Now when you have time to devote to doing this. Use uninstaller to remove Acrobat. The use find file to locate all traces of acrobat in Library > Application Support and Preferences. Leave your PDF files alone. Don't try to start up Acrobat untill you are Complete. Then before openning Acrobat Repair Permissions. Now open Acrobat and Try.

If that don't work I  am out of ideas. I've scratched my head so much I've got it bleeding.

Acrobat reader fails to print as well. Same failure as soon as it starts to print.

Apple Preview Prints just fine.

And this problem only developed when I installed CS5, I have to think it must be some component that got installed or some permission changed.

I tried a complete uninstall of Acrobat Pro and Reader, and the re-installed Acrobat Pro and it still does not work at all. Just can't print at all anymore. This is so frustrating!

Perhaps going to the CS5 forum and asking the same question and give steps of what you've tried.

Maybe they can point to a document  in support to eliminate the problem.

I posted in the Mac CS5 forum, but have gotten not replies. This totally sucks! I have used Acrobat as my primary PDF program for years, and now I have to use Preview.

Still no joy on this, on this or the CS5 forum.

This makes using Acrobat so damn frustrating. Why do I pay for this software?

Any have any luck with this, or any more ideas.

This makes Acrobat almost completely useless to me, and I really rely on Acrobat.

I still can't get Acrobat to print. Just fails every time. This sucks. I own this expensive program, and I can't do one of it's most basic functions with it!

I have given up for the time being and I'm using my previous version of acrobat to print pdfs on my desktop printer - time consuming and annoying. I don't think the drivers have caught up with the new software, because my scanner won't work with CS4 either.

Does the exact same thing it has done since the problem arose. The printer starts to print, then it fails, with error: /Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rasteroescpll.app/Contents/MacOS/rasteroescpll failed

OK, and this is even weirder. I just went into Page setup for Acrobat Pro, and it was set to any printer, so I set it to my Epson R280 and now instead of failing, it says it is printing, but instead of printer just kicks out blank pages for however many pages there are that I am printing! WTF!

Your printer has had temporay Brain freeze.  shut down computer. Turn off printer unplug power and usb cable let sit about 2 minutes.

Next  replug usb and power. Resatrt computer.

Next go to printer Utility and choose your printer, double click on your printers name .

this will bring up you don't normally see which show whether the printer is ready to Print or not.

I don't think it is the printer, as it prints fine with every other program, just not Acrobat Pro.
