how do I encrypt

I used to be able to scan to a PDF and then create an encrypted PDF on mac. I'm now on a PC and it doesn't look like I can do this. Do I need to buy an Adobe product for this functionality? TY

Adobe do not have a free product to set document security. The products "Acrobat Pro" and "Acrobat Standard" can do this.
