According to the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), digital accessibility means that websites, tools, and technologies are designed and developed so that people with disabilities can use them. Beyond legal and ethical considerations, digital accessibility can bring significant business benefits. These can include increased customer satisfaction, loyalty, and retention. It can also improve brand reputation and help businesses reach a wider audience, including people with disabilities who represent a significant market segment. Ensuring digital accessibility can provide a competitive advantage, as it can differentiate a business from its competitors and position it as a leader in accessibility and inclusive design.

Adobe Acrobat Sign is a leading eSignature solution, supported by the technology of Acrobat. Acrobat Sign powers business and document workflows and is trusted by some of the largest industries and companies worldwide, making accessibility even more imperative. When we intentionally build our products to be more inclusive, the outcome is a better experience for everyone.

Acrobat Sign has a strong foundation of accessibility, and we know that the full power of technology cannot be realized without a diverse set of experiences to fuel it. We firmly believe that accessibility is fundamental to creating inclusive and delightful digital user experiences.

Here are some ways we are holding ourselves accountable to innovate responsibly and develop our technologies, like Acrobat Sign, with respect for our customers and communities.

  • Implementing Accessible Features: Accessibility is a critical part of the development process. Thinking about accessibility early on can help ensure that features are usable by all upon release.
  • Engaging with Customers: Our ongoing collaboration with customers and people with disabilities continues to help us identify and prioritize opportunities that will provide increased usability and access to the digital experience.
  • Annual Accessibility Audits: We partner with other experts in the industry to conduct audits annually that assess our conformance with the latest standards such as WCAG 2.1, level AA. This includes testing by individuals with disabilities who use assistive technologies in their daily lives.
  • Continuous Improvement: We have dedicated resources to routinely address any opportunities that may arise related to improving accessibility for Acrobat Sign.

Within our Acrobat Sign team, we developed what we call the “Acrobat Sign Accessibility Framework.” Here is how we set it up:

  • Education and Resources: Accessibility training is an integral part of our onboarding process. This helps increase awareness, skills, and knowledge to create more accessible content and tools.
  • Planning and Prioritization: Consistent and frequent review meetings enable us to plan and effectively manage accessibility issues using clearly defined accessibility severity levels.
  • Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for Accessibility: We have established clear SLAs for addressing accessibility issues. This allows us to clearly communicate, to our customers, resolution timeframes based on severity levels.
  • Dedicated Points of Contact: We have accessibility leads established for each of our teams to help drive progress and focus on accessibility initiatives.
  • Accessibility from the Start: Accessibility is integrated into our development process, from design through development to the release of features:
    1. Adobe Spectrum: We have developed an Adobe-wide accessible design system to ensure consistency and accessibility across all Adobe applications.
    2. React Spectrum: React libraries and tools to provide adaptive, accessible, and cohesive experiences for all Adobe applications.
    3. Acrobat Sign Modernization: Our ongoing efforts to modernize core application experiences (senders, administrators, recipients) with the React Spectrum
    4. Tools and Automation: Integration of automation tools in our development pipeline enables us to identify and address accessibility issues during development.
    5. Manual Testing: Rigorous manual testing is conducted to help ensure a more accessible experience. This testing includes but is not limited to, keyboard navigation and screen reader support, providing a more seamless experience for all users.

Here are our recommendations for the best experience with Acrobat Sign:

  • For Microsoft Windows, use the JAWS and NVDA screen reader with the latest version of Google Chrome and Edge browsers
  • For Android devices, use TalkBack with the latest version of Google Chrome
  • For Apple macOS and iOS, use VoiceOver with the Apple Safari browser

The latest version of the Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) for Acrobat Sign is available on the Adobe Accessibility Compliance page.

At Adobe, accessibility is a fundamental aspect of our product development philosophy. By sharing best practices and developing accessible technology, we unlock the unlimited possibilities that digital technology creates for people with disabilities to participate fully in society and commerce, and we build a more inclusive and trustworthy digital space for everyone.
