What exactly does the prefill option do?

Can someone explain what the prefill option does exactly? I'm trying to create a form with fields that  I would prefill in adobe before sending for an esignature. It's a contract where I'd prefill the fields that are unique to each contract. I see that there is a form field property called "prefill". Can anyone help?Screenshot 2022-05-18 130542.png
