Question

Color conversion HEX to CMYK differences

Hi all,

we have a hex-color (#3bafda) and want to convert it to CMYK.

We used the Adobe Color-website and got CMYK-values, but when we check in photoshop, the CMYK values are different.
RGB and HSB values are the same as on the website.
Checking on Colorhexa.com gives the same values as the Adobe-color site.

In the Photoshop-conversion settings we changed the color engine and intent, but none of the settings gave us the same result as the websites.
Off course we can manually create the correct CMYK-color in PS, but I wonder where these differences originate.

Thanks for your help.

Ralf

That's because Photoshop (and other Adobe apps) is/are 'color managed'.  Photoshop uses the document's 'color profile' for RGB to CMYK conversions whereas the color website does a plain simple approximation.

You might want to look up 'color profiles' or 'color management' on the forums or elsewhere to find out more
