New Here ,
Sep 27, 2022 Sep 27, 2022

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is an Adobe font or an OTF font that can be used for barcodes (for mailings). We are currently using the Data Merge feature in InDesign to place barcodes (USPS  Intelligent Mail barcodesthat are required by the post office for mailing such pieces. However, this font type (TTF) isn't going to be supported anymore so we hope we can find a font that can be used in it's place. The font name is USPS4CB medium font. Please help.

Thank you

THE QUICK ANSWER:

Your existing USPS IMb font is in TrueType (.ttf) format, so you don’t need to do anything.

Adobe is dropping support for PostScript Type 1 fonts in the Creative Cloud 2023 applications. Older TrueType (.ttf) fonts and newer OpenType (.otf & .ttf) font will still work.

THE MORE DETAILED ANSWER:

There are many barcode fonts available for all purposes, but none are available directly on the Adobe Fonts service.

If you’re concerned about whether you have the latest version

If you’re concerned about whether you have the latest version of the United States Postal Service’s Intelligent Mail barcode (IMb) fonts, you can download the most recent release directly from the USPS website:

USPS – Intelligent Mail Barcode – Information
https://postalpro.usps.com/mailing/encoder-software-and-fonts

USPS – Intelligent Mail Barcode – Downloads
https://postalpro.usps.com/onecodesolution

The fonts are available in a wide range of formats, because the USPS has to serve a wide range of operating systems. The font you need is the non-AFP build; here’s the direct download link:

USPS – Intelligent Mail Barcode – TrueType Fonts
https://postalpro.usps.com/modules/custom/postalpro/modules/postalpro_entitypro/files/uspsFontsNonAF...

This zip archive file contains a set of folders. The ‘docs’ folder contains a user guide on how to use the fonts. You’ll find the newest version of the TrueType fonts in the ‘fonts > scalable > trueType’ folder. There’s also a ‘postscriptType1’ fonts folder: this contains the PostScript fonts that will no longer be supported in Creative Cloud 2023.

I hope that answers your question. If not, please let me know.

Best regards
Andrew
