I have several installed fonts on my system that show up in FontBook, but when I try to access them in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or other Adobe apps, they are nowhere to be found. What would be causing this? The fonts have been validated by FontBook, so I know they are not corrupt.

edit: adding some clarification. It appears the issue is only happening in Adobe Illustrator (both 2024 and 2025 versions). I am able to access the fonts in Adobe Photoshop 2025, and Adobe Premiere 2025.

Hello @michael_tate,
Would you mind confirming the name of the font/foundry so I can try and replicate this behavior on my end? Also try the suggestions shared in this help article (https://adobe.ly/4ggRUxg) and share your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

These were fonts I downloaded from Automotive asset web sites so not entirely sure which foundry. The font names were Kia Signature and Neue Plak (Ram truck font).

Do you have any other applications running in the background? I'm on the Windows platform. If I have certain applications open (such as CorelDRAW and its not-so-great built-in font manager) it will cause certain styles in some type families to disappear from the font menu in Illustrator. If I close both applications and then re-launch Illustrator I'll see the missing font styles restored in the font menu.

I'm running on a Mac Studio and typically have a few other applications running. Unfortunately, I've tried quitting Illustrator and restarting the computer, and the fonts are still missing. The fonts in question do show up in Apple's FontBook app and are validated, so I'm at a loss as to what the problem is. Illustrator is the only Adobe app I'm having this issue with. InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro all show the fonts I cannot see in Illustrator. I even have both Open Type and True Type variants installed in some cases.

That is strange. Are you running the latest general release version of Illustrator? It makes me wonder if it is a bug of some sort. Illustrator's developers just fixed another bug where attempts to edit text would cause newly inserted lettering to be changed to default Myriad Pro.
One idea worth trying: install a slightly different build of the version of Illustrator you're running. You can have more than one build installed at a time. I wonder if the same font issues would occur in a different build of Illustrator.
Currently I have v29.2.1 and v28.7.4 running on my work desktop PC because of another type-related bug. My workplace has a mix of different graphics applications. If I open an Illustrator .AI file that was exported from CorelDRAW and the file has any live editable type in it the file will fail to open in Illustrator 29. I'll see a message saying the file is damaged and Illustrator tried to recover it. A blank document is all that ends up opening. If I open the same Corel-flavored AI file in Illustrator 28 it will open successfully (the text will have all sorts of line spacing errors; that's a whole other problem that has existed for years in Corel's AI export filter). If I re-save the file again in Illustrator 28 it will then open properly in Illustrator 29. BTW, when the Corel-flavored AI file is opened in Illustrator 28 various styles of fonts in the font menu will be missing. Closing and re-launching Illustrator fixes the problem.
