Neusa Next Std REMOVED!

Community Beginner ,
May 16, 2024 May 16, 2024

Hey hoping someone can help here. We were recently using Neusa Next Std for a large client - we have already created a lot of assets both static and motion using the font. It seems now we can not load it from Cloud and when looking on Adobe Fonts website it no longer appears. Can anyone shed some light on this? Wondering if we will now have to go directly to Northern Block and purchase. Thanks.

Experiencing the same issue here. Has Adobe lost licensing rights? I also can't find a direct purchase link for Neusa on Northern Block.

Chatted with an Adobe Rep who said the following, I will update here if I receive a call back or an update:

Matthew, Yes you are correct our backend team is working on this concern.

Got it, so this is a glitch or a licensing issue? Apologies, I need to understand the context since my client's files all rely on that font. Do you have an ETA on when it will be resolved?

Matthew, No worries we are trying our best to get this fixed our engineering team is consistently working on this concern however it will be fixed as soon as possible it is a bit challenging for me to provide you the ETA for the same but will fix this for you.

Got it-- so just to confirm, Neusa Next Std is not leaving Adobe Fonts, your team is just fixing a technical issue?

Matthew, yes the font will be there and our team is working on this you can help me with your contact number so, that I can provide you the further details about this.

No ETA, but another message that says "due to a glitch" not licensing issues. Hoping this gets resolved ASAP. It's holding up some of my deliverables. 😞

Hi

@KirkJohnson

,

We're sorry to hear about this. Could you please let us know which app you used the font? Please check this article and let us know if that helps- https://adobe.ly/3VvURCF

Came here to post about a similar issue. Hoping this might be related. Adobe Garamond Pro seems to have disappeaered from all my Creative Cloud apps. I use this font pretty much daily, and can't really work without it. Tried reactivating it many times.

Is it possible this glitch is affecting multiple fonts? Is anyone seeing the same thing?

Thank you!

I wouldn't be surprised if same issue, as I'm noticing its a couple of fonts that have disappeared for me now. Something funky must be going on with the back end. It might be worth directly reaching out to an Adobe rep like Mathew did and find out directly. Good luck as I know how frustrating this is.

Bad news- I connected with Northern Block via email. Neusa Next is no longer offered for licensing and will not be offered at this time (from themselves or elsewhere) due to some legal issues.

If folks end up finding a similar alternative for their clients, please let me know. We utilized this font across a lot of assets, so going to have to figure out some solve.

Matthew

Yeah- I followed up today and the new reply from Adobe rep is that it was removed by the publisher, but I didn't fully trust them since I received conflicting information the day before. Went straight to the foundry and unfortunately got an answer I didn't want to hear haha.

In fairness to Adobe, I do think the foundry was forced to abruptly remove it, so it may have been a surprise to Adobe. 🤷 Onward... without Neusa Next haha 😞

I suspect the problem with Neusa Next has something to do with the larger situation in the commercial type industry. I tried searching for Neusa Next at the MyFonts web site. Nothing there. The only thing that initially appears to be available to buy legally is the original Neusa at the Inhouse Type web site.

Also, the Fonts.com and FontShop web sites have been folded into the MyFonts site (and larger Monotype umbrella). I don't know any details involving Neusa Next. Perhaps the person(s) involved in its design don't want it being sold through Monotype. But then I have no idea why the type family would be removed from Adobe Fonts either.

Just talked to an Adobe rep today on the phone (i prefer actual people over chats or bots). He told me there's a problem with licensing and can't say when (if at all) this will be resolved. Apperently Neusa has stopped the licensing for Adobe. The rep suggested I find a free version online to use it for my clients. (https://befonts.com/ has it).
Although this might work for now, for a company like Adobe that wants to be marketleader, and urges people to use their fonts for all their (professional) projects I find it very uncomforting knowing that fonts can just dissapear, without any warning. Now I have to find a quick solution for my upcoming deadlines. Anyway, just wanted to share the outcoming of my call with you guys.

Some issues with licensing typefaces are beyond the control of Adobe. They have agreements with dozens of indepedent type foundries as well as a growing number of type companies that have been bought by larger companies such as Monotype. It can be an upside for type designers to have fonts hosted in the Adobe Fonts service for all the marketing exposure they can receive. But I have no idea what sorts of royalties they receive from Adobe. If a type designer or type foundry decides to remove their fonts from the Adobe Fonts service there isn't much Adobe can do about it. I really like the Adobe Fonts service, but have always been aware of that potential drawback.

For small, one-off projects or purely graphical things like logo designs I would suggest converting the type objects to outlines. If the art file has to be opened and re-used months or even years later there won't be any worry about missing fonts. For jobs involving clients with a lot of repeat work it is going to be best to use fonts that are licensed the traditional way, with locally stored and installed font files.

We also got a big problem now. With the Neusa Next gone i can't publish for my biggest client. And there are a couple of publications that needs to get on the market ASAP. I had an alternative batch of Neusa Next via Nothern Block. Downloaded a couple of years ago. But that is not the same font. And there are some dubious links on the net to download the font, but as i said suspicious.

Would love to know if there is any news? I have two years of a large clients work in this font. I realize that this is always a danger, but it would be really great to know if anything has come of this? Since it's not even available on Northern, I'm wondering if there was some sort of copyright issue. And if there was - I would love to know what that font is.

In case anyone is searching - Bebas Neue Pro has been a decent (though not perfect) solution for me in the interim while we hope that we don't have to go back through many old files. 😞

Hey,
I think Matthew37440482t9m5 f probably got the most helpful information:

Bad news- I connected with Northern Block via email. Neusa Next is no longer offered for licensing and will not be offered at this time (from themselves or elsewhere) due to some legal issues.

If folks end up finding a similar alternative for their clients, please let me know. We utilized this font across a lot of assets, so going to have to figure out some solve.

It might be worth contacting the foundry directly to find out if/when it will be available again. I'm going to make a bit of an assumption and say there are some licensing issues given In House has Neusa, but this is just an assumption. If no luck it might be worth considering just using Neusa. https://www.inhousetype.com/typefaces/p/neusa

Good luck! I know how frustrating it is.

It's a super frustrating situation; I've been using the font family for several years for my own branding projects... Not condoning this but a little bird told me that Neusa Next Pro is exactly the same as Neusa Next and can be found here (and *allegedly* is 100% issue free in the last month or so of compatibility testing): [link deleted by moderator]

Again, I wouldn't know personally...

Adobe Fonts is a great service in most cases, but it's just like streaming: you never actually "own" any of it, and it can disappear or change overnight (it already happened with Pantone). For client projects, I highly recommend seeking out font files and assets that you can keep backed up on your HD, and not depend on Adobe's licensing agreements.

Hi @KylitoMaldito,

We apologize for the inconvenience here. We understand how difficult it is to lose access to a font family. Unfortunately, the Neusa Next family is no longer available from The Northern Block, the foundry that provided the font to us. We recommend the following font families from Adobe Fonts as alternatives, with a similar design and multiple widths:

  1.  Loos
  2.  Acumin
  3.  Roc Grotesk

Regards,

Tarun

Does anyone know if "Neusa Neu" from myfonts.com is the same as Neusa Next Std? I really need to find a suitable replacement for an important client file.
