Unable to validate a .ttf font in Mac - HELP!

I've had a .ttf font created for me which apparently works fine on a PC but when trying to upload to my Mac I keep getting error messages saying it cannot be validated.

'1 serious error was found. Do not use this font file'

It's not even allowing me to install the fonts with the green ticks.

Anyone able to advise how I can make this work, please?

The person who authored the font file will have to correct the errors in it and perhaps even try testing it on a Mac. Do you know what font authoring application they used to create the TrueType file?

Unfortunately not, and the font was created quite some time ago (only just tried on a Mac). If it could be opened in Font Forge (or similar) do you know how one might go about determining what the errors are?

It would be hard to tell from a font file itself. Some mistake or oversight must have been built into the TTF file when it was generated. A full blown type authoring app might be able to fix it by successfully importing the font and (hopefully) the font's metrics. Then a new copy of the font could be generated. Another approach is using a font conversion utility like FontLab's TransType app. That app can open font files that are specific to PC or Mac (such as old Postscript Type 1 fonts) and then generate new OpenType versions that will work across platforms.
