Can Encoder do what ffmpeg and Handbrake do?

Can Media Encoder (or any other Adobe application) perform functions that ffmpeg and Handbrake do, regardless of whether it takes longer or uses more resources, etc.?

I'd say it's better than both, but try it for yourself and report back.

Can you be more specific? What ffmpeg or Handbrake functions are you looking for?

Can AME add toggleable subtitles to a file like Handbrake can? No.

Can AME natively export H.264 using x264? No.

AME can export to many more formats than Handbrake.

With a simple line of code ffmpeg can easily combine an audio stream and a video stream from one file into a new container without encoding a new format.

Those four things are pretty different from one another, so what is it that you're hoping the Adobe apps can do?

The products are very different. AME can do more as it can batch encode After Effects comps and Premiere Pro sequences. It can do less because it does not have some of the features of ffmpeg/Handbrake around track handling and audio pass-through.

AME cannot handle VFR.

Hello.  I agree with Warren about building a function into Media Encoder that will optimize video for the Internet.  I import video to Premiere, and edit it. making it shorter, and then export.  The resulting file (in 1920x1080) is 800 times bigger.  I use Handbrake to optimize it, and it returns to a very similar size; usually within a few mb.  It's an added step to the workflow that is needed every time.

To reduce file size, you can reduce the frame sizes of your video or reduce the quality of your encoded video and audio streams. All that is supported in AME, even with specific presets. What exactly are you missing?

In AME, I don't know of anyone single presets that that retains a high level of discernable quality while compressing to manageable upload files sizes. It's not programmed to efficiently combine the 2 processes of Encoding information to straight HQ of QuickTime and Compressing to MP4 to trim unnecessary data. AME also does not offer the level of granularity that Handbrake does for compression control. The use of both often happens: AME is for HQ and then Handbrake for acceptable upload sizes.

If you have a Setup with AME you are willing to share that achieves this, that would be awesome.
