We all know it happens. Half the time, your Windows version of Media Encoder 2023 will just randomly stop encoding your Premiere project file (not a crash, mind you, it'll just randomly stop). You do the thing where you pause, then open Task Manager and force AfterFX to close, then unpause, and hope it doesn't happen again...except, you know, in the deepest depths of your soul, that it will. And when it does, you know that you'll do the same steps again, and again, and again, and pray that the export doesn't fail. (Even though, statistically, there's probably a 1 in 3 chance that it will.)
In my case, I'm ready to pull my hair our because there's no rhyme or reason to when it stops. Sometimes it stops when it's rendering a sequence with lots of AfterEffects sequences. Sometimes, it'll stop right at a cut. And other times, it'll just randomly stop on something simple that it shouldn't be having difficulties with.
You look at your system, with 128GB of RAM and an nVidia RTX 2080 GPU (a little past its prime, maybe, but still very effective nevertheless). You look at another system where it happens, 64GB of RAM and the very latest RTX4090 GPU. You look at a third system, also 64GB RAM and with an RTX3080 laptop GPU.
None of these three systems should be having difficulty with this project, and yet, they all are, even if Media Encoder is the only thing running. An export could stall once, then maybe the next time it'll work. Or maybe not.
Simple question: WHY THE HECK DOES THIS HAPPEN??? I can't be the only one whose workflow this disrupts.
People wonder why I prefer to use CC2021 for things, but the 2021 versions of the apps don't seem to have this particular problem. Media Encoder 2021 hardly ever gets stuck,
Very sorry about your issue. As a first step: Can you please have a look at your GPU memory usage while encoding?
If you have a 100% repro case, would you be willing to share for us to look into the issue? I can send you the details via private message in this forum.
I'll give this another go and check out the GPU usage; I'll let you know what happens.
Are you using the latest Studio driver and not the Game driver?
For this specific render I was using the latest Game driver; I'll clean-install the Studio driver and see what happens. More to follow.
