How to convert a wmv file in media encoder?

I have a mac & am trying to convert a wmv file in media encoder, but doesn't recognize the file type. Any advice? Thank you!

WMV are not readable on Mac. I believe you'd need a software that could read/convert the WMV file to a format that is Mac friendly. VLC Media player will allow you to export a WMV to MP4 and it is free I believe.

Use a Windows machine or on the mac a virtual machine with a windows instance and adobe media encoder installation on it to encode wmv files to what ever you want. Another way is to use a non adobe encoder to do this. For the last one a search engine of your choice will be your friend.
