I hear your frustration! This is something we cover in our FAQ under “Adobe XD Plans.” https://helpx.adobe.com/xd/help/faq.html We’ve never supported serialized licenses, and we let everyone know as soon as we launched in March 2016.
Basically, in order to store user data, we have to have a named user account. A serial number that can transfer from student to student is the equivalent of creating a single social media account and letting any student with physical access to the computer to post under that account. How do you know who owns what? How you can you tell, among all of the prototypes you own, which one are yours and which are some random classmate who happened to sit in that location? With cloud services, you need to know who owns what. This is especially important in educational institutions, where you’ll want to hold students accountable to the work they post. If a student posts something harassing or illegal, how do you know who did it?
There are licenses out there that are not serialized that other educational institutions are using—this provides a named license for a set of people at the university, and provides for you the safeguards you want as an institution.
Hope that helps!
