Adobe XD v50.0.12 paid after the update (No starter plan)

Bonjour 👋

Est-ce-que Adobe XD est devenu payant après la dernière mise à jour v50.0.12 ?

    Correct answer ProDesignTools

Hi, I'm encountering this while trying to update XD to access a recent file that's been shared with me - assuming I sign up to the trial and then cancel the subscription, what guarantee do I have that future updates will be available? It's not like I can keep signing up to free trials. Is this a bug that will be fixed in the next version (in which case what's the timescale for this?) or do you intend to keep it in place?

Adobe has acknowledged an issue with the version 50 update of XD, and hopefully they will address it.

But importantly, the Starter version of XD has not gone away, and there seems to be a straightforward workaround to access it (even in version 50)...

Here it is: Instead of launching XD from the Creative Cloud Desktop app, try starting it from elsewhere – namely, from the Windows Start menu or from the macOS Dock/Launchpad.

Then choose the "Exit XD" button, but XD Starter should still run – even without a trial or paid plan.

    Same issue here.

I am unable to download it from anywhere, all the links posted here just redirect me to https://www.adobe.com/creativecloud.htmlwhere it simply says starts free trial or buy.

I don't really want to start a free plan to download a free software. Also, what happens if I need to reinstall it after the trial has already expired?

I noticed, XD will be available for free , as starter plan , if you install
the Cloud app, and cancel any paid plan.

It's incredible that they haven't been able to fix this yet.

This has been going on for almost a year now, is everyone using other products now, or is Adobe just ignoring this?

I know for sure that fixing an issue like this isn't difficult.

    Hi @Lese77 ,

Sorry to hear about the trouble. On launching XD from the Creative Cloud Desktop app, it will notify you about the current plan details be it be Paid or Starter plan. If you've signed up for trial and now wish to continue with the starter plan, you can continue using XD Starter by launching XD manually (from the Windows Start menu or macOS Dock/Launchpad).

Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or issues.

    Regards

I have the same issue -- I can't access the starter plan for Adobe XD. It redirects me for 7-days free trial only.

Hi, did you try the suggestions given in the discussion above?

Even if you sign up for the free trial and download/install XD, you can always cancel it before 7 days have passed and XD Starter will continue to run on your computer for free.

    Hi,

I was unable to update/download/use starter plan without selecting a 7-day
free trial and selecting monthly subscription.

Is there any other way to access the unlimited starter plan?

    Thanks!

Make XD free again, atleast the one with the limited tools like sharing and colaborating.

I found this thread after talking to 3 different customer support representatives over the weekend.
None of them seemed to be aware of the problem.

I have now started a 7 day free trial in spite of using the software for several years.
Hopefully when the trial expires, it will revert back to Starter.

The issue I'm having now is I can't update without starting a 7 day trial. I just started and quit a trial just to download as it wouldn't let me install. Can't even update on my mac at all as it doesn't support the OS anymore.

Looks like Adobe being Adobe, trying to squeeze some more dollars from anyone they can. They even make their xd files not backwards compatible with previous versions of the app--this cant be a technical requirement in 2022. Too many people with glorified weekend MBAs running companies these days.

Adobe does not intentionally make project files not backwards compatible... It happens only when there are features added in newer releases which are not supported by older versions.

That's what they say. But i remember for the longest time, i could open PSD files from previous versions of Photoshop just fine for many years. There's no reason XD shouldnt be able to do the same. New features shouldnt break core functionality or prevent the app from opening files created from previous versions. It's all lazy engineering or greed, you pick.

Indeed, there appear to be other reports here, here, and here of the Starter plan no longer working without a free trial or paid subscription since version 50 of XD was released earlier this week...

I suspect some issue or other glitch was introduced with version 50, which hopefully Adobe will sort out soon

because the free Starter plan should still be available – and Adobe continues to show this as well:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/xd/kb/xd-subscription-options.html

    https://www.adobe.com/go/xdstarter

In the meantime, I would suggest rolling back to the previous version 49 of XD by following the directions here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/download-install/using/install-previous-version.html

Please let us know if that helps, and works around the issue for you.

Ok horrible work around but .....

Yes accept trial, then WAIT for XD to update. Cancel Plan. You CANNOT open XD from CC panel anymore, the only option is "Try" which leads you down the select subscription plan. However if you open XD manually (like from start menu on windows) you can open it. In XD it still shows me on the starter plan......

Really hoping this is just a glitch, as likely would not be able to update without going through the hoops again.....

Is there anyone who knows why new xd update is giving us only 7 days free trial? From what I know XD is free for starter plan!

I've moved this from the Using the Community forum (which is the forum for issues using the forums) to the Download and Install forum so that proper help can be offered.

That unfortunately does not hold true anymore. There is no way to stay in the Starter plan anymore since version 50. When trying to update on Windows without an active paid plan, Creative Cloud does not allow to update unless one subscribes to XD and starts the 7-day trial. Others with an active paid plan reported they could update, but have to subscribe in order to use XD. Here is already an ongoing discussion about this matter.
