Blank Sketch file

A colleague has given me a Sketch file but when I open it all the artboards in the document are white, there's no content there. The file is 2.4 mb, 0.9 mb larger than the earlier file sent to me on the same iteration that worked in XD, so it's clear that the file carries content, so it can't be empty - but there's no visual content and I have tried to check out the artboards - but there's nothing to see. I have opened the file from file browser (W10), I have right clicked it to choose program to open, I have opened it directly from Slack etc etc. I've trried everything but the document always come up with no visual content, only a series of white art boards. Have Sketch made an update lately that Adobe have overlooked?

Hi,

Was the file previously saved with a new version of Sketch (versions 50, 50.1 or 50.2)? With version 50, Sketch made some changed to their file format and that's affecting our file open workflow.

We've fixed the problem in the meantime and will ship the fix with our next public release.

I don't know that persons version but we all use up to date software here. In the meantime I can't collaborate with the people on Mac using Sketch as I'm on W10. I presume the rest of the Sketch files will appear empty until XD is updated and that can take a long time. Too bad. Looks like I will have to emigrate to Mac so I can start using Sketch instead of XD then.

Hi,

Yes, if your colleague is saving files with the latest Sketch version, you'll get the same result.

Sorry to hear that this is blocking your collaboration. We have no control on the changes Sketch does to their file format, but we are prioritising the fixes and shipping them based on our release schedule. As said, we're adding support for those new Sketch versions in our next release, so this shouldn't take too long.

I'm happy for the Sketch file support but I have a strong feeling we will see errors like these occur every time Sketch develops new things, so in the long run we would all be better off using Sketch instead. I'm the only one using XD in my environment so I would make them happy if I did. Right now I'm sticking out like a sore thumb using XD and when I'm not even able to open Sketch files anymore I'm running out of excuses to use XD as the file compatibility was my main argument - it is no longer valid.

did you fix you original problem with blank views ?

I have the same problem and i can correctly impot my Sketch design in adobe xd. I Have a blank views !

It's been explained in this thread, but since Adobe don't release fixes as the errors actually occurs we will have to wait for the next official release, which makes any sort of progress very slow and far from dynamic. This is why so many people are returning to their Sketch and Axure setup I guess. XD doesn't develop fast enough to meet the competition and the releases are far and few between, and when they first arrive old bugs are still an issue.
