How to control or remove padding inside text boxes

Community Beginner ,
Sep 20, 2022 Sep 20, 2022

When creating text boxes in XD, there is padding inside the text box between the text and control box.  Is there a way to remove this?  Is there a way to specify the padding top, left, right and bottom inside the text box?

Hi Chris,

Sorry for the inconvience caused, could you please try the below mentioned steps:
Select all padding values under padding and then it will display four options like: Top, Bottom, Left, Right. Accordingly you can change the values.
By Unchecking of the padding option, padding will be removed.

Clarification: within a single text element.  There seems to be some default space added within the text box surrounding the type (see highlighted area in attached screenshot) that is not able to be removed.  This space is not accounted for in development view, and makes the layout inaccurate.  The only way I have found to remove is to convert the text to paths, but then the text becomes uneditable, and the text in treated as .svg.

Hi Chris,

Please follow the below steps:

1. Create a reactangle
2. Create text element on top of rectangle
3. Then select both and group them
4. Then from PI enable padding.
5. Then select the options available in PI to add top left bottom padding.

Thanks & regards,

Chaitanya Shandilya

@Chaitanya21936374hmkf Thank you for your response.  Unfortunately this method utilizing the object padding tool does not remove the extra space defaulted in the top of the text box, which is what I am trying to remove (see attached screenshot).
