Hi All,

We understand that this is a highly viewed thread on XD community and thank you for reaching out. We would like to inform you that you can use the plugin "Web Export" which allows you to extract HTML and CSS from your design.

You can also use Adobe XD plug-ins that allow for extracting HTML and CSS. Select Plugins > Discover Plugins and search using keywords such as web, or HTML, CSS.

This may not be the answer you are hoping for however, a typical workflow is to deliver a prototype design to a developer to code the site on the appropriate platform such as HTML5, Muse, Dreamweaver, WP or other technology solution. XD does not have an Export to HTML feature.

There are 3rd party plugins and within:

Illustrator has the ability to convert assets into css: Extract CSS | Illustrator CC

Photoshop: Copy CSS from layers in Photoshop

InDesign also has a Publish online feature - again not what you are looking for most likely.

You will require both html and css in order to build a web page, and if you wish any functionality that css does not provide you will also require javascript. I have seen many programs over the years that promise to make web development available to everyone, but have yet to see one that even comes close to fulfilling the expectations.

If you are a designer, with very little knowledge of web development, and do not want anything more than a static page, (no database) then one of the simplest is Adobe Muse -

So far, Xd feels like baking a cake and then not getting to eat it. Or waiting for the other shoe to drop. Or.. fill in the blank, because it stops short of generating the HTML/CSS for you.

@terraa48174024,

You've replied to an old topic from 2017.  For best results, start a new topic and explain what you're attempting to do that you can't, keeping in mind that design tools are not developer tools and vice versa.

For creating code, Adobe has Dreamweaver and MS has Visual Studio Code.

And it should not generate anything. It is a design tool. Not a (web) development tool.

This fact just blows my mind. It's such an obvious objective. When a friend just recently showed me the software, my first question was "Can you export CSS, HTML, etc?" Imagine my utter shock that the answer is no. That tedious manual labor goes to the developer.

Obvious objective.. exactly right, Jack.

It's not as if a "Jack of all trades" would necessarily have a team working for him or her, i.e., handy personnel like a designer who hands off the Xd "prototype design to a developer to code the site." It is not my "typical workflow."

Some of us are a one-man show. It reminds me of some manuals' troubleshooting sections that have this answer: "If you have a problem in this area, see your systems administrator." That systems administrator would only be me.

So, they are working on Xd converting to HTML/CSS. That's good, because until they do, I've abandoned Muse and have gone back to creating pages in Dreamweaver, as I used to do, after I long ago stopped hand-coding in a text editor.

And until they do, Xd will be nothing more than what a "one-man show" webmaster previously scrawled on the back of an envelope or a dinner napkin, before proceeding straight from there to code.

I love Adobe products, but Xd has left me wondering!

Thanks Atul! Just installed Export to Web and did a simple test... very excited about further testing with this plugin. Didn't see Export Now in Discover Plugins... maybe it's not published yet?

I have tried without success to sign up with ExportKit. I have no idea why they do not send me a password. And they have no answered their emails or chats at all.

Have you had a chance to do much testing?

It's sadly very limited in scope as it assumes everything is an 'image' and outputs the design as mostly svg. I think this is to be expected, because XD probably uses svg under the covers, but of course, we're designing web elements/containers generally. But then converting that into web elements requires a great amount of work, especially for an unpaid plugin developer!

With adobe now committed to building the export to web functionality, we might just have to wait for that.

I'm a one woman show, a designer making my own portfolio web site. I went from Dreamweaver to Muse and am never going back.  Will Export to web do the trick?  Does it generate the complete (CSS, HTML and any other necessary script) package like Muse?

I can't believe they discontinued Muse when it sounds like it was working. Do you still use it?

=========

The Muse End of Life is old news.  Adobe dropped it in 2018 as it was too limited for use as a modern web tool.  It couldn't be coaxed to keep pace with the evolving web.

No self-respecting web developer is using Muse today.  Former Muse users have migrated their sites to new software or online services like Webflow or WordPress.
