Interactive symbols within an artboard?

I'm new to XD. I'm looking to create a single interface where elements such as symbols or graphics animate / transition on a single art board - as opposed to transitioning to a new art board.
For example: Can i make a symbol swap for another symbol when tapped on - within the same page/ art board?

I've watched a few hours worth of tutorials to find this answer, but everything I've seen so far seems to be geared toward a linear style web page / app progression.
I'm trying to build an interface for a video game, and i need buttons to animate menus opening within the same page.

The closest thing you can use is the Overlays feature to do this. XD currently does not support what you are describing. XD does not have the best animation options at this time.

As a former game dev, I might look at Adobe Animate as a prototyping option for this use case.

    Hi Mikea,

I would like to inform you that, you may try auto-animation and drag gestures. Please check this link: - Auto-animate in XD.

    Thanks,
