Hi @Wayne5F97 , actually it doesn't turn your shape into path when you double click, shape stays the same but it just becomes editable as path, which makes totally sense in terms of intuitiveness since it's common vector app behaviour (in AI when you double click you can edit/select the inner shape in a group etc you go one level inner right;) , shape is already a path unless it's an image or a letter, in that case those path handles don't appear (just the bounding box).  I'm sure you're also going to get used to it, happy designing!

It make no sence at all, you are forcing the user to double click into a group to select an object, which in turn will turn a object into a path, and distroy the shape settings options in the prosess, it the most idiotic idea I have ever come across in XD, and trust me the list is long to pick from.

Actually if you double click a shape, as long as you don't distort its path (distorting/editing the path will result in shape to be converted into a path) it's going to remain as a shape, I tried to demonstrate and explain in this short screencast:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ykdc76lzz9hdpa/shape-path.mp4?dl=0
As you see, you can double click to see the path that creates the shape but if you deselect it without distorting the path, it will remain as an editable shape 😉 Hope this helps.

I think you will find I'm not the only one, is a poor feature which only make your layers group selection harder to deal with when working on a complexed design.

Yes as you said and I see it there are some designers that requests that feature but if you undo it turns it back to a shape, there were just a few exceptions that I remember I forgot to turn it back to a shape then what I do is checking the width and height of the shape and create a rectangle from scratch matching those dimensions. It looks like this feature request couldn't gain the required popularity to be embedded since 2018, as design & development teams' priorities are the most requested features, otherwise it would be developed and implemented, but we'll see if more of users are going to request it and this feature is going to be a higher priority in the features to be developed queue.

If you miss the option to undo because you have a complex group of layers , there is no way to return a path back to a shape, and that it what the problem is. Your example shows a simple process, which is easily corrected and spotted, with a layer of 50+ objects it is not very easy to spot the changes you might of made in the a layer group.

Hmm I understand Wayne. Let's hope this feature gets higher priority in the queue, and hope more designers upvote for this feature.

I agree, this is one of the most annoying things in Xd. It makes no sense at all.
And you will often notice that, say a rect, has been converted to a path much later than when you accidentally did so.
Meaning you have to delete it and recreate it.
I don't understand why they have added this type of feature to beginning with, it makes no sense to me.
I just learned that you can CMD+CLICK to do a deep selection, to avoid this a bit, but it is not what you in the majority of situations would like to do.
It's like they never watched any user trying out to use the tool.

Selections could work like this instead:
If I click once on a grouped/nested object it should select as it currently does.
But once that is selected and I'm clicking again, obviously trying to select something at a deeper layer, then it should select this item (it is even highlighted with a blue rect showing that I will be interacting with that item!).
Or even better, what is highlighted to begin with is what will be selected if you click (why highlight it otherwise?!)
And if you want to force multiple clicks to go down deeper, then the blue mouse over highlight should reflect this behavior.
And if you hold down CMD/CTRL then it would deep preview selections.

There are a few possible routes to explore and improve this, one thing is for sure, the current behavior is extremely annoying and ineffective and confusing.

There should be a way to reverse the conversion at least.

Can't reverse it as the way Xd handles shapes is similar to Photoshop - once it's no longer a primitive - it's done. At this point I wouldn't expect this to be changed / fixed. Just have to be careful and use Ctrl/Cmd Click to deep select, rather than double-click.
