I'd like to start an official voting thread to push forward animated GIFs (as long as Adobe's aquisition of Figma doesn't tank further functionality devlopment).
There is a thread which points to another thread that addresses MP4 functionality but Joan stated in that one the following:
"XD does not support Animated GIF, so if you are still looking for that, please start a separate request and vote on it."
So here it is.

New feature suggestions and voting are handled on the User Voice platform. Log in or register, type something in the search field and you'll get a button to post a new idea. I wasn't able to find a thread specifically for GIF support. I think people are satisfied enough with the support of videos & lottie files.
I'd argue GIFs are largely inefficient compared to videos & lottie, both in terms of quality and size. I personally never used them, but I understand there might be some use cases which make for a faster workflow.
