What happens to comments when an existing prototype link is updated?

We're currently working on a large project with 50+ artboards. Our devs have received a prototype link with comments & annotations on nearly every artboard to further illustrate functions and transitions. Now we have updated/improved one section of the prototype, and would like to update the link the devs have to avoid confusion. Is this possible without losing all our comments, or should we create a new link?

Thanks for using Adobe XD hope you are liking the experience. You may certainly update the link of the prototype, it will keep all the previous, comments. Please make sure that you don't create a new link, else it would erase the old comments and create a fresh link.

We had been hoping it would be possible to create new links as well as update existing ones – sort of how you can save a file under a new name, but also go back and save it under a previous name. We have a prototype that is constantly changing and being updated as feedback comes in, and we need both the annotated version of the link for the developers, and a "clean" version for marketing & other reviewers. Both need to be up-to-date with the latest version of the mockup. Perhaps that functionality will be available in the future.
