F4V Stream don't play on iOS devices

I'm trying to play a recorded stream from flash media server on mobile devices. I'm able to play FLV files but F4V files (like the sample files included in the VOD application in FMS)  won't play on iOS device (tested on iPad 1 and iPhone 4s).

The odd part is that this videos play fine in the simulators included in Flash Builder 4.6 and also in Android devices and BlackBerry Playbook.

FLV videos play fine in all devices and simulators.

Updating Air SDK to 3.4 didn't solve the problem.

I tried with Flash Builder 4.7 and didn't solve it neither.

Source:

....

protected var nc:NetConnection = new NetConnection();

protected var ns:NetStream;

protected function application1_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void

{

     nc.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStatus);

     nc.connect("rtmp://server-url:port/application/instance/");

}

protected function onNetStatus(event:NetStatusEvent):void

{

     if(event.info.code == "NetConnection.Connect.Success"){

          ns = new NetStream(nc);

          ns.addEventListener(NetStatusEvent.NET_STATUS, onNetStreamStatus);

          ns.client = this;

          ns.play("mp4:folder/sample1_1000kbps.f4v");

          var video:Video = new Video();

          video.attachNetStream(ns);

          container.addChild(video);

     }

}

......

Events received from simulator:

     NetConnection.Connect.Success

     NetStream.Play.Reset

     NetStream.Play.Start

     NetStream.Buffer.Full

     NetStream.Video.DimensionChange  <--- Video playing

Events received from iOS device:

     NetConnection.Connect.Success

     NetStream.Play.Reset

     NetStream.Play.Start

     NetStream.Buffer.Full <-- Stuck, no video, no audio

Anyone has any idea? Why the f4v streams are not playing on iOS devices?

Regards

We didn't find a solution yet, we still have the same problem to play f4v files.

Hope we have a solution or workaround soon.

Could someone please open a new bug report on this over at bugbase.adobe.com?  When adding the bug, please include sample code or an application so we can quickly test this out internally.  If you'd like to keep this private, feel free to email the attachment to me directly (ccampbel@adobe.com).

Once added, please post back with the URL so that others affected can add their comments and votes.  I'll follow up with the iOS team again once the bug has been added.

Hi,

H.264/AVC (video), and AAC (audio) codecs are not supported on iOS devices. Please refer the following links:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/iphone/WS789ea67d3e73a8b24b55b57a124b32b5b57-7fff.html

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC

Also, you can find the details of the codecs used in your .f4v or other videos using any software available in the market.

Nimit

Will H.264/AVC (video), and AAC (audio) be supported on iOS devices in the future? Any chances?

Is there any codec inside f4v container compatible with iOS devices?

Open the native player is not an option in our application.

Thanks

You can use StageVideo to play H.264 video.  Also, use renderMode value as direct in the application descriptor.   Please refer the following link:

http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/media/StageVideo.html

Please update if you will face any problems.

Please note renderMode value should be direct in application descriptor when using StageVideo(if not using already). If you still facing the problem, please attach a sample application at https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3558253. If you'd like to keep this private, feel free to email the attachment to me directly(nimitja@adobedotcom).

I've tried with StageVideo (using render mode direct) and the behavior of the application is the same, it loads the video but doesn't play on iOS devices.

I've attached a sample application (SimpleStageVideoF4V.mxml) at:

StageVideo is working very fine with H264. I have attached a sample application H264StageVideo.zip at https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3558253 for your reference. Could you please give it a try and update how's it goes.

Your sample application works fine when it plays a local video, but it fails when the video is played from a remote server through RTMP.

I've modified your application to play a remote video and it works fine in android but not in iOS. I have attached this modified application in https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3558253

Output:

iOS:

NetConnection.Connect.Success

# of stageVideo(s): 1

1785: NetStream.Play.Reset

1792: NetStream.Play.Start

--- (no video) ---

25022: NetStream.Play.Stop

25277: NetStream.Buffer.Full

25283: NetStream.Buffer.Flush

27138: NetStream.Buffer.Empty

Android:

NetConnection.Connect.Success

# of stageVideo(s): 1

1196: NetStream.Play.Reset

1197: NetStream.Play.Start

1203: NetStream.Buffer.Full

--- (video playing) ---

23388: NetStream.Play.Stop

23389: NetStream.Buffer.Flush

27015: NetStream.Buffer.Empty

Best regards

Is there any other solution found for this issue? I have also tried StageVideo it doesn't work. FLV(Sorenson)  works fine in emulator as well as in iPad. F4V works on the emulator but not in the iPad. Is there any other solution for this?
