iOS 7 requires 3 new icon sizes: 76px, 120px and 152px

  • If your application supports the iPhone device family, you must include square icons of the following dimensions: 57x57 pixels and 120x120 pixels.
  • If your application supports the iPad device family, you must include square icons of the following dimensions: 72x72 pixels, 76x76 pixels and 152x152 pixels

Is this already possible in AIR 3.8 beta because I have only tested it with AIR 3.7 and it does not compile with these new icons.

WIll this be added soon?

Thanks for the heads up about 3.9. Guess I’ll be looking for 3.10 beta next!

As for how Flash Pro will be, I can’t tell you when an update will appear (I don’t know the precise date), but it’s soon. For the moment there still won’t be UI to add any combination of icon sizes, you’ll be stuck with the pre-iOS 7 sizes. But, it will no longer delete the icons from the app descriptor file. That works out well enough for the time being, just copy and paste in your block of iOS, or block of Android icons, and until you have to switch platforms you can repeatedly publish without having to use the command line, or having to go back and undelete the icons from the XML.

At some point there will be UI for any sizes. This new update will do some other things too, and iOS 7 icon sizes came in relatively late in the update’s development cycle, and adding general size support must be too risky for now.

That sounds great.

So if I understand correctly, all we have to do is add the icons to the .xml file and let flash compile? No need for command line instructions?

That's absolutely a workable solution... 😉

Great! Can't wait for this update.

I wonder if it's gonna be a matter of days or a matter of weeks before this update arrives....

3.9 still deletes extra icons from my desciptor file. Every time I publish. Is there a trick to making it leave it be?

That will require the Flash Pro update that we were just talking about.

Still no answers from Adobe, still no updates, but I bet Adobe doesn't suspend rent collected on Flasch CC.

THIS JUST DOESNT WORK.

I get an error on publish that says "icon missing". Nothing more specific. Thanks Adobe.

Hi Lil Games,

I am using Flash Pro.  After modifying the xml, I set it to read open only.  I used the latest version of AIR 3.9.  In the xml file, it must indicate that it is the 3.9 version (one of the first few lines).  If you have changed the version number, than you need to change it in the xml file as well.

The xml file was also opened in Flash Pro while compiling/publishing.  In Flash Pro, under the General Tab (while Publishing), where it says the Included Files (which normally has the xml file and the swf file), I also inserted the additional pngs.

I know that for Android (96x96 and 144x144), it worked and am 100% sure, as my app finally moved to the tablet section (without these icons, if your app is designed for a tablet, it will not be placed in that section).  While compiling/publishing, I did not get any error.

For iOS, I also used the same procedure and did not get any error about missing icons while publishing.  However, I am not sure if the ipa file had these icons as I was receiving some errors while trying to upload it to itunesconnect, and reverted back to not using the new ios 7 icons.  The error I was receiving may have been due to some other issues and not the new icons, but I did not do any further investigation to figure it out.

Good luck with this!

Justin

FINALLY worked. Thank you for your tips.

PS: What about these ios7 sizes?

40x40

40x40@2x

60x60

The first two I was able to include, but 60x60 was rejected when publishing.

I wonder when that Flash CC update is coming.

Colin talked a little bit about it more than a month ago and still no update...

Is there someone around here who can tell us more?

I too wonder about this. For time being I use the trick of setting the XML to "read only", but it seems odd that Adobe hasn't pushed out an update for Flash yet ...

So, that hold up that happened seems to be over. At the moment I have some sort of issue that is stopping me from seeing the update, but you all should be able to see it ok.

Which means you should be able to add the new icon sizes to the app descriptor file, and publish from Flash Pro, it won't erase those icons. If you're using something earlier than the recent AIR 3.9 builds you will get another complaint, but if you're up to date things should publish without any hassle.

If you're on Flash Pro CC, go to Help/Updates, to get the new version.

Like Colin described in post 102, I too confirm that the icons will be included using flash pro 6 with the latest version of AIR.  Apple accepted the .ipa file so that procedure (modify xml file and include the other icons, then set to read only) is working.

Justin may not have explained about setting the XML file to read only. If you don’t do that, then yes, you would need the CC version and not the CS6 version. CS6 doesn’t have an update.

60 isn’t a size for any device, but 80 and 40 are. Here’s my list of all the sizes:

http://xfiles.funnygarbage.com/~colinholgate/files/iconsets.txt

The 80 and 40 are used by Spotlight I think.
