Hi guys,
Just wondering what the info is surrounding Air supporting the 64-bit architecture.
As Apple say the existing 32-bit apps will work fine but, what's the plan going forwards...or isn't there one yet?
Dave.

I'm curious too.
But (in general), one app design/updated to 64 bit, can still run in older devices or have to be shiped in 2 versions (like HD apps) ?

Hi Dave,
We would certainly like to support 64-bit architecture natively, but honestly it is too early to comment on that. We will be evaluating this capability and the possible resulting gains, and based on that will take a call.
Will keep you guys posted.
Thanks,

Hey Romil,
Thanks for the prompt reply!
Just curious but great to have dialogue
Any thoughts on the Nokia/Windows/Microsoft news? Does that alter plans at all to support Windows mobile as Unity and Marmalade amongst others do?
Appreciated that market-share isn't great compared to iOS and Android but, clients consistently want to support it.
Air rocks

Hi Dave,
No, as of now, there hasn't been any further change in the plans for Windows mobile.

Good news, I think everybody wants to see in the roadmap the support to Intell cpu's and extend to low devices.

Hi Romil,
Do you have any updates on AIR supporting 64-bit apps natively? We found a bug in iOS 7 - face detection doesn't work in iOS 7 on 64-bit devices, with the only fix being to build the app as an 64-bit app. Or the other "fix" is to wait for iOS 7.1 release, which fixes the issue, but users not upgrading to 7.1 would still have the problem. I know this is an Apple iOS issue, but if you guys have plans to support 64-bit, now would be a good time for us.
BTW, this has to do with the Face Detection ANE we offer to AIR developers: https://airextensions.net/shop/extensions/core-image-by-vitapoly/
Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,
No, there isn't any udpate on this yet. Given the current set of items that we have, it doesn't look like it will get prioritized above them in the near future, and so would request you to wait for users to move to 7.1 to get this fixed.
Thanks,

We would enjoy seeing native support for 64-bit on iOS, however I agree with Adobe that there are so many other higher priority items to get to first.
It would be nice for developers to witness those priorities of what Adobe hopes to build into the AIR platform next. For example, in the Adobe bugbase, it would be nice to have a new webpage that displays a list of bugs and feature requests, being able to filter and sort by number of votes, and re-ordered according to what Adobe plans to work on next.

Well it looks like we'll be needing that 64 bit support rather soon..

@Adobe.. February is coming up fast.. thoughts on if you'll be able to meet that deadline?
Thanks!

Hi Jake,
There will be a lot of very disappointed developers if this doesn't get sorted in time.
This will really put people off AIR if it ain't possible to submit apps for a significant length of time after the deadline. We still wait to
update users properly for the new iPhones ... and they came out over a month ago.
Adobe need to workout a better relationship with Apple and get a heads up on these events, instead of just reacting at last minute .

Why is Adobe mute on this matter?
In less than 4 months we won't be able to update our apps on the iOS app store. We need to be able to tell our clients what is going to happen. If Adobe is not going to deliver on time, we may need to migrate our projects to other technologies ASAP.
This is an emergency Adobe.

They are not mute. Here are two other threads where Adobe people have joined in:

Thanks Colin, I didn't see those threads.
This thread is the first link Google throws so it's good you posted those links for other people to see.
