Trouble Installing Adobe AIR on Mac OS X

I get the following error when trying to install Adobe AIR: "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR.  Installation may not be allowed by your administrator.  Please contact your administrator." I am the administrator.

I followed the steps located in the Adobe help forum, but this has not worked either (I'm still getting the same error). Can anyone help?

This is what didn't work for me from the help forum:

Problem: During installation of Adobe AIR, you receive an error dialog with contents similar to "An error occurred while installing Adobe AIR.  Installation may not be allowed by your administrator.  Please contact your administrator."

Follow these steps for the manual solution:

  1. Using Finder, navigate to your Applications folder and look for a file (not a folder) named "Adobe".  If one exists, rename or delete it.
  2. Open the Terminal application in your Applications/Utilities folder.  Run the following commands:
    sudo chmod -R ug=rwx,o=rx /Applications/Adobe
sudo chmod -R ug=rwx,o=rx ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/
sudo chmod -R ug=rwx,o=rx ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/AIR/
sudo chmod -R ug=rwx,o=rx /Users/Shared/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/

Next, adjust the ownership of a particular folder. Run the following two commands in Terminal, noting the user name response of the "whoami" command.  Replace username with your username in the next command:

  1. whoami
  2. sudo chown -R username:staff ~/Library/Application\ Support/Adobe/AIR/

Close the Terminal application and rerun the Adobe AIR  installer.

I am having the same problem. Adobe get your act together if you want people to use Flex and AIR please resolve this error# 3003. What is the resolution? I googled and tried all the hacks posted on this forum and nothing works. I need to install the Balsamiq app which works on top off AIR.

I am ready to abandon and not recommend using FLEX or AIR on any web application projects. This seems like a really big bug that needs to be address I don't want to have to do these hacks and work-arounds especially when I have to pay for your expensive software (CS5).

1. Open Terminal app.

2. Type "sudo <AIR Installer>/Contents/MacOS/Adobe\ AIR\ Installer -silent -eulaAccepted" in the interactive window, where <AIR Installer> is the path to your AIR Installer.

3. When requested, type your root password.
