Unable to install Adobe Air on MacBook Pro running OSX 10.7.2

I have been trying for a while today to install the adobe air product on my machine so I'm able to run the TweetDeck software.  Unfortunately no matter what I do, the installation seems to fail.  I've manually uninstalled old files.  I've run suggested apple scripts suggested in other threads.  I've repaired local disk permissions.  You name it, I think I've tried it.  Any assistance would be appreciated.  I've included the console activity log for the last hour or so of trying to get it working. Thanks, Stephen

1.  Brand new MacBook Pro 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 machine with two graphics chips (Intel HD Graphics 3000+ AMD Radeon HD 6770M), with   OS X 10.7.2 Lion (Build 11C74)  pre-installed.

2.  Attempting to download latest version of Photoshop CS5 fails.

     a.  Downloading CS5 from Adobe.com requires pre-installing Adobe Download Assistant.

     b.  Adobe Download Assistant can be downloaded but cannot be installed because it requires pre-installing Adobe AIR.

     c.  Adobe AIR can be downloaded but won't install.  Sometimes it issues error msg saying it requires most recent version of Adobe AIR, other times there is no screen activity after attempting to install from <AdobeAir.dmg>.

2.  There is no option to turn off automatic graphics switching in Energy Saver System Preferences on this computer, so that suggested solution does not work.

3.   Turning off (unchecking) "Automatically reduce brightness before display goes to sleep" has no effect — still unable to install AIR.

This is a nightmare.  The reason I bought this computer rather than a less expensive model was to run Lightroom (which did install OK) and Photoshop CS5.  HELP!

HELP!

Robert

My suggestion would be to reinstall Lion from zero. No update.

I did that, and now I can install / uninstall Air without problems.

The installation takes about 20 minutes...

Thanks very much for the reply.

I'm completely new to Lion, but I assume "reinstalling from zero" would mean re-installing from the Lion Recovery Mac OS X Utilities.  There is no CD/DVD, of course.

Kevin White's OS X Lion Support Essentials says that there should be a package  <Install Mac OS X Lion.app> in /Applications which contains  <InstallESD.dmg> (for Install Mac OS X Lion.app) which can be used to make a full Lion Recovery Drive on an 8-GB memory stick.  Unfortunately, however,  the promised <Install Mac OS X Lion.app> application was not among the pre-installed programs in /Applications on my new computer.

Does "no update" mean that one should install AIR before installing any available 10.7.2 updates (there are currently two), or that these updates should not be installed at all?

Thanks again,

Robert

Thank you everyone for letting us know the workaround that you've been using.  We are working closely with Apple to provide a solution to this as soon as possible.  In case anyone needs to revert to a previous version of the runtime, you can find older versions here:

the same odd behavior: air and related applications (widgets vodadone and icq) only work with firefox open

Macbook Pro + Lion 10.7.2 and Air 3.0.

Same issue as above, only working with Firefox open.

I've tried some solutions but unable to run a couple of programs which crashed all the time.

As latest solution I've unistalled 3.0 and reinstalled 2.7.1 and everything is fine now, even without Firefox running.

I've moved the 2 files in the trash bin (Adobe Air Installer + Adobe Air Uninstaller) in Application ---------> Utility -------------> Adobe Air Installer + Adobe Air Uninstaller + also moved in the trash Adobe Air.framework folder (the whole folder) in Library----------> Frameworks---------->Adobe Air.framework

remember to empty the trash before reinstalling the older version.

Tried several time and now everything is OK.

I hope this help.

i encounter the same problem. I was using many Air applications and they all can't start now. It's a really horrible disaster for Air. I hope this will never happen again.

fang, just to make sure you saw, you can work around this issue by running Firefox or Chrome at the same time you try to install/run AIR.

Thanks a lot. It seems this is the only and best solution for now.

Add us to the list of companies affected.  The FireFox/Chrome workaroud is helpful but it's difficult to explain and a negative experience for potential customers who are trying out our demo application.  We are looking forward to a patch for AIR to come out hopefully very soon.  Thanks!

I wanted to post here in case it is being monitored any more than my original post. We originally posted in the "Problems and Bugs" forum, and here is my most recent post there:

http://forums.adobe.com/message/3976825#3976825

Has there been any progress behind the scenes? Customers can't run our application. They are unhappy. Potential customers are leaving and not looking back.

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Can you try manually removing the existing AIR runtime at /Library/Frameworks/Adobe AIR.framework (the entire folder) and then retrying installation?

That was actually done already too.

I logged a bug and sent the crash logs for further investigation.  Will keep you posted.  Thank you for letting us know of this issue.
