Question

ActionScript version and Flash Player compatibility

Hi guys...

I have a question. Is there a relationship between the language version of an actionscript file and the player on which the swf runs? Meaning, will there be a case where a certain newer version of flash player will no longer be able to run swf files which are based on AS2? Please do advice. Thanks.

I don't know.

But AS1 runs in Flash Player 10

So , I guess AS2 will be available for a long time in players...

AS2 is basically AS1 - when compiled, AS2 is translated into AS1. All players since version 9 incorporate two virtual machines, AVM1 (for AS1) and AVM2 (for AS3), they are capable of playing back both formats. As far as I am aware future players will continue to support AVM1 - for the foreseeable future at least
