Adding Video to Html5 Canvas

Hi everyone who reads this.

I'm working for a company that uses Adobe Edge Animate + Go Animate to produce interactive modules with video. We use Go Animate because it's super fast and easy to export video and load into Adobe Edge Animate. We then use Edge to create interactive content on top of the video. Edge also exports as html5+js file.

However, Edge Animate is now out of the question as the most recent version is 2015 - and Adobe Animate CC has taken over.

Now my problem - I can't load video directly onto a canvas in Adobe Animate - like I used to in Adobe Edge. I'm tempted (very) to continue to use Edge, but I probably wont be able to.

I was wondering if someone over here at Adobe could explain why you've taken this feature out? I'm assuming it has something to do with one of your other apps which helps with character animation like Character Animator.. But any other insight would be great.

Otherwise, i'm keen to hear from anyone who can help me with my problem. I'm a web developer at heart so I don't mind going into the code and manually adding a video after export, but then I would have to create a screenshot of the video and then upload that into animate and remember to remove it at the end... which really doesn't help my workflow.

EDIT: 1 way I've found so far is to create a 'frame by frame' animation from my video, and then add that as a keyframe animation directly to animate..

This is a horrifically inefficient way to deliver any nontrivial quantity of video.

Why aren't you just using the video component?

Extremely trivial!

Where is this video component you speak of?

Cheers

Nevermind, a quick google on Animate CC Video Component finds exactly what I want.

Let's see if it works

Cheers man.
