Do more people have this problem? And I have auto-recovery ON(it is set every 30 minutes) but after crash it's unable to open the recovery file and a day's work is lost!!!

It crashes once or twice a day since the last update. I have the latest version.

save your fla's with different names so you don't lose more than 10minutes of work.  eg, project1_v000, project1_v001 etc.

to stop animate crashing, reset your preferences -

http://helpx.adobe.com/flash/kb/re-create-preferences-flash-professional.html or remove

Win:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate CC 2017\ and

C\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\2017\

Mac:

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Animate CC 2017/ and

/Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/Ad

Thanks!

Can I safely remove that folder?:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate CC 2017\ and

C\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\2017\?

It's 206 MB...Will Animate work or do I have to reinstall or..?

it should restore those preferences to default after removing.

you can always rename and see if there's a problem.  (i like to prepend $)

Aah ! I renamed the folders and they 're-appeared' after opening Animate.

Now my workspace is default again. Let's see if it fixes the crashing.

Thanks

See Re-create preferences  where a detailed description of the process has been provided.

Yes I read it carefully. I tried the 'Ctrl+Alt+Shift' when opening Animate. It didn't change anything. And it doesn't show the fix for Animate 2017 version in detail.

But I renamed the folders like Kglad said and it worked for setting the preferences back to default.

Thanks for your help guys.

I hope the problem is solved now.

Make sure you don't delete points from Drawing Objects in the current version of Animate. It will cause a certain crash. If this is your issue, use Groups, Layers or Symbols instead until this behavior is fixed.

I hardly use drawing objects. I use shapes.

I noticed Animate can't handle broken or traced bitmaps very well either.

Just to be sure, are you all set now?

Can you mark one of the answers that comes closest to answering your question (even if it is your own post) as correct for the benefit of other users?

Thanks,

Preran

Well, it did crash again once, so I'm not sure yet if any solution on here worked. It's early days.

Still crashing!! Shuts off for no reason. I'm using animate less and less. Annoying! Why do I pay alot of money every year for the program to crash all the time.

                        Mac:   /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/<Animate CC version>/ and

you're welcome.

if this is a periodic problem and periodic fix, something (eg, av, anti-malware, cleaner etc) on your computer is corrupting your preference files.  i've never had that problem and i've been use flash/animate when it was owned by macromedia. (and i use av, anti-malware, webroot and ccleaner.)

Ah ok. Not sure what causes it. It started randomly some 6 months ago. I'll just periodically delete those files then. 🙂
