Animate resetting preferences and corrupting files

New Here ,
Feb 08, 2024 Feb 08, 2024

I've been using this program constantly for four years now, and only recently have I actually had to deal with corrupted files. At first I thought it may have something to do with the fact that my laptop has a terrible battery, so unplugging it immediately kills it. But this issue comes up even if I first close Animate and wait a moment to let the close process. And not only does it corrupt files, but it also resets all of my preferences which I have to adjust back every time. Keyboard shortcuts, workspace, and all. This has happened several times in the last month out of nowhere. I am using 2024 edition, and debating whether just switching back to 2023 will make any difference for now.

Also as a side note sometimes transforming objects will ruin them? I always use the fluid brush, and even with lock fill turned off, transforming something made with that tool will change its color or fill the art with a different color when there wasn't one already. Also an issue that came up at the same time.

to rule out an animate problem, uninstall it (including your preferences):

uninstall animate, including preferences, per https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/uninstall-remove-app.html
restart your computer

reinstall animate

test if the problem's resolved.

I tried that and it gave me back my original presets from before it started corrupting, but then it just corrupted again.Screenshot 2024-02-24 161328.png

The preferences seem to be saved through the cloud, judging by how I could get them back, but they happen to become otherwise inaccessible at the same time a file gets corrupted (as it just happened again). Am I expected to just uninstall and reinstall Animate 2024 every time a file corrupts?

Wait, I see what you mean.

I unclicked "keep preferences" when I uninstalled but I guess they came back? I suppose I can try again.

I don't know what to tell you; I followed your instructions another two rounds of times and still got my old presets back. I uninstalled Animate, clicked "Remove preferences", restarted my computer, reinstalled Animate, and the circled presets and the accompanied keyboard shortcuts returned (same files still corrupted though).

Good to know, and trying this will still help me get one step closer to figuring out why my files have been corrupting?

if it doesn't fix the problem, the next step is installing on a clean computer.

Sounds like a plan! I won't have time to backup my normal files and factory reset for the next few days but if this doesn't work, I will give that a shot because a totally clean pallete sounds like that could help. Thank you!

Just to clarify where various settings are stored:

Custom Shortcuts reside in Roaming:

C:\Users\YourUserAccount\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Animate\2024\Shortcuts

Commands, other plugins, Workspaces are in Config:

C:\Users\YourUserAccount\AppData\Local\Adobe\Animate 2024\en_US\Configuration

When you delete these folders, they will be recreated with the default content upon the next start of the program.
