Bone Tool Goes Crazy

I am trying to use the bone tool. I parent together my limbs, but then when I click to connect certain limbs-- it catapults a bunch of somewhat parented body parts to another part of the screen. No matter what I do I can't practically use the bone tool. Certain layers keep moving without my command, or sometimes vanishing entirely.

Adobe Animator 22.0.5

I have attached some screenshots. The first one is me using the Bone tool, then it catapults away. The second is trying to save a moving timeline as a symbol and once I do it disjoints it all. Bizarre. I am an amateur though so maybe I am just missing something. Thank you!

Check that the center point is in the EXACT location for each symbol across ALL keyframes. Use the Free Transform tool to check. Let me know.

Yeah I did. They are all parented together at the right anchor points (hand to elbow, elbow to shoulder, shoulder to hip, hip to torso, hip to legs etc. But whenever I try to use the bone tool it starts catapulting things or not connecting properly. Screenshot (1107).pngScreenshot (1108).pngScreenshot (1109).pngScreenshot (1110).pngScreenshot (1111).png

Sounds like you are using Layer Parenting with a Bone armature? But that wouldn't work because all Bone armatures are placed in an armature layer while Layer Parenting requires all assets on different layers. Any possible way you can upload the FLA somewhere for us to take a look?

I do have all my layers parented and then after that I try to use the Bone tool. Does that not ever work? I watched video tutorials online and thought that was a key so you could bone link each limb together too.

I can't seem to attach a FLA here so I'm not sure.

It's either one or the other - Layer Parenting or Bones. Honestly, I would use Layer Parenting. The Bone tool places all symbols inside a single armature layer and that can be limiting.

I have to also recommend https://flash-powertools.com/ which is an extension for Animate that is an all-in-one solution for IK & FK rigging inside of Animate.

Stay away from the Bone Tool if you want to keep your sanity.

Yeah, the bone tool has always been buggy. You should try the 3rd party plugin smart magnetic rig.
