Bringing in characters to the main action

the tutorials are great showing how to move a character along in his or her own sub-section, but when you want to complete the overall animation with other actions on the board, you can't see what the other one is doing--nothing shows up after all of your work. It's as if you that characters actions live on some other plane. How do I integrate them into the main action. I'm working on a longer animation than just a 3-second one. Or at least I'm trying to. Thanks.

if you want to see an objects animation on a parent timeline, use graphics instead of movieclips.

This is the video put out with Animate showing how to do animations:

Create a 2D character animation | It specifically instructs to make these characters into movie clips and even their individual parts. But that's not my issue. Once I've made them, in a kind of subsetting in which the layers are distributed to their various moving parts, I can't figure out how to get that action to be applied to the animation main scene.

If I'm missing what you're saying, can you direct me to a better tutorial that tells you how to animate in this program, not just sort of side character animations?

did you test (control>test) or are you trying to see your animation in the timeline?

I did that, and yes, it works, but in the timeline, you don't see any frames taken up at all, so I can't know when or even if the action will happen as I try to animate other objects on the board, such as a second character, and words that need to come on the stage.
