Hi everyone
I'm having a bit of a problem with a keyframe I added in the middle of a motion tween.
Here's what's happening.
I've got a load of words I'm moving around on the stage using a motion tween.
I created my motion tween with the moving word. I then decided that towards the end of the movement I wanted the word to fade to zero alpha (vanish) towards the end of the motion tween.
However, I go to select the single keyframe. Then I select the word on the word on the stage to bring up the properties panel and edit the alpha, but it selects the entire frame (tween) and applies the vanishing effect from the start of the tween, rather than from the new keyframe.
I hope this makes sense... I can post screenshots if not!
Thanks
Tom
Ok, so I think I understand what you're seeing and why you're confused. If you go to a later keyframe and change the alpha it wil make the change start from the beginning of the whole tween. Before you go to the frame that you want it to be alpha zero, first go to the last frame you want it to be alpha 100. Make a change, like change it to 95, then change it back to 100. That will force a keyframe for the tween to zero to start from.
As it feels a bit strange to do a change and back again just to

Although the span is all highlighted it should only be applying the change to the current frame. You should see a keyframe dot appear after you've made the change.

Thanks - That doesn't seem to be happening Colin... do my screenshots illustrate it any better?

What you describe is the correct behavior. You would only want to see the motion tween info in Properties if you intend to move the entire tween to somewhere else on the stage, then you would click in the timeline. If you only want to create a new keyframe for a one property you would scrub to the right frame, then click on the instance on the stage. The whole tween does highlight in the timeline, but changes you make in Properties only affect the frame you are in at the time.

As it feels a bit strange to do a change and back again just to fool it into making a keyframe, another way to work is to make the change on the zero alpha frame, then go back in time to the frame you want it to be 100, and drag the value back to 100.

You can also insert a keyframe on the motion tween by right-clicking and selecting Insert Keyframe from the context menu.

That may sometimes not be what you want, though it also won't harm in some cases. The times it will be a problem is if you later want to change the overall path without changing the later alpha fade. There would now be a position keyframe where you don't need it. You can insert keyframe for certain types, but only for Color if you have previously made a keyframe some other way.

That's worked perfectly Colin. Thanks so much for taking the time to understand and help with this one!
Thanks again,
Tom

I'm attaching screenshots for a better description.
I have to click on the symbol itself to get the correct properties options up, but clicking on the symbol selects the entire tween and applies it from the start.
I want the transparency to kick in at the selected keyframe, not the start of the tween.
