Hi there,
I’m (very) new to Adobe Animate and have just worked through my first tutorial course.
My problem is, I can’t for the life of me to get the animation to test in a browser! It quickly runs through something (too fast for me to see) and then….. nothing!
I have never got it to work, not once. Tried with different files and even project files supplied from the course.
I’ve been previewing my work by double-clicking the html file.
My usual browser is FireFox, but I downloaded Chrome and set to default after reading some post recommendations but still nothing.
I feel something is blocking the browser from launching??
Any ideas? Going crazy (prob already there).
Further Info: Working from a Mac (2021), macOS: Sonoma 14.4.1 and have the latest version of Adobe Animate.

Appriciate the reply.
Testing with document set up as HTML5 Canvas.
Tried both; Control > Test and Control > Test Movie > In Browser

Added Note: I made a simple animation using the platform, ActionScript 3.0 and still run into the same problem. Can't test in browser. It allows me to test 'In Animate' though.

with your canvas app, open the browser console and check for errors.

Hi kglad,
I've attached screenshoots of FireFox browser console.
Coding is not my thing, can you see anything there?
I got a work mate to open Animate on his PC (I'm a Mac girl) to give it a shot. He opened one of my files and hit 'test on browser' and it worked for him. (He uses Microsoft Edge as his browser)
I've tried on my Mac at home & here at work + different browsers and no joy 😞

you have, at least, one error. click the first message error link to see the line of code that needs to be fixed

I agree with Kglad.

I have exactly the same problem too, is there any answer on how to fix it. Also brand new to Animate and not a coder. Have tested files supplied by professionals who have managed to test them themselves, but it wont work for me at all. Would love to know what the fix is. Have tried 5 different files from different people and no luck. Browser doesnt open and a message appears in the Output window each time. Cheers Gia

yes, you just fix your error(s).
if you need help with that, start with
Lesson 1: https://youtu.be/bG05_am-fQI
Lesson 2: https://youtu.be/H9e9toftvdM
p.s. the ouput panel messages when publishing an html5 document are warnings/informational.

thanks, but I dont think its a code error. I tried with just a blank document also with nothing on it, and I still cant preview or publish nor can anyone in my Team. We are opening jobs that have been previewed and published already by other people so the code should be good as we havent changed anything. This is the first time we have installed and opened Animate so it seems to be something to do with the software. I have tried on my work Mac and my own home Mac and it works on neither. Am really hoping we can find someoen to help us. Cheers Gia

Hi, sorry no idea what or where the developer console is, do you mean the developer window in the Browser? This is the first time we have tried to use Animate. Usually use After Effects for animation but we need html animation so are trying to learn, but have hit this problem where we cant test preview or publish. If I hit the command/rerturn or little arrow it processes something but doenst open the browser. Also the same if I hit Publish, so I have no files to open or look at in a console if that is what you mean? Have noticed that even though nothing opens, there is an html file and js file now in the folder. Here is a screen shot of it opened in Edge showing the html code. I have tried testing with Safari and Google too, but it doesnt open up in any of them. Have attached a screenshot of the html page for this test file which was just a square on one keyframe., but not sure that is what you are asking for. Many thanks.

Thanks I have watched that now and can see where to find the console, however, I have nothing to check in there as when I hit test it doesnt open up anything in the browser which is the problem I have? Even a blank page doesnt open up the browser like in the video. In the video it shows that his document opens up with a number like a server address. Nothing like that happens for me. Thanks

in animate, you click control > test > in browser?

Have just discovered that the html files that are saved in the folder when I test, do work when dragged and dropped into the Browser, so I might have to work with testing that way for now. The browser just doesnt open up automatically when Test Movie in Browser is hit? Would love to find out why. Thanks for your help, very much appreciated whilst trying to navigate this new territory. Cheers Gia

do you have a default browser assigned?

Hi, yes I have tried assigning alternatively Safari, Edge and Chrome as the default browsers to test each to see if it would open, but still no luck!

after testing that you have correctly assigned a default browser, you could try re-installing animate.

Hi, Im clicking the Test Movie icon in the top right corner, or hitting the quick keys, or going to > Control > Test Move > in browser. None of those open up a Browser window. Cheers
