Try MP3 as well.

Remove the metadata before converting the audio file.

It turns out, if you use Media Encoder to convert to MP3, the original WAV or AIF file must be 44.1 kHz before the conversion.

MP3 seems to be the only file format that has worked 🤨  but okay, it had to be converted from a 44.1 sampling rate file.

That did not work. I turned off Metadata and went to 44 kHz.

The same thing is happening to me. Very frustrating. I have spent a lot of time trying to figure out something that should be EASY!! I always use audio in After Effects and never had this problem. Any help would be appreciated.

No. I haven't tried Audition. I have been using Media Encoder. I sent my resulting WAV and MP3 files (which would not import into Animate) to an expert and he had no problem importing them on his mac laptop. Weird. So, he sent me back an FLA and I was able to move the audio from one Animate doc to the other. Whew. That means my file conversion was OK. Next, I am going to try importing a stock audio file. Also, I will try importing my audio into AE.
