Color Picker instantly changing color instead of just picking it

I have a student whose color picker is acting wonky on Adobe Animate 2024. It instantly changes from the color picker to a gradient bucket with a lock on it and fills all of the art on the layer. I thought the color picker was supposed to act more like Photoshop where it changes just the swatches and then he could draw a new line with that color. The paint bucket popping up is frustrating. Anyone know what is going on?

We figured it out... it was really hard to see but his drawings were selected, so it was changing everything that was selected. Arg!
