Hello, I'm very new to Animate, and I have a basic walking cycle that I want to move across the screen. When I add a Classic Tween, it doesn't work properly because I have a keyframe for each drawing on the layer already. Hoping there's an obvious answer to this question that I'm simply overlooking since I've only had the program for a week.
Also, I have tried to make a Movie Clip Symbol, and then Tween that, and the tween works but it only shows the first frame of the symbol clip, and doesn't show the entire cycle as I saw on some tutorials like this one: How to create a looping walk cycle animation in Adobe Animate (Flash) - YouTube
Thank you for the help, I am a sleep-deprived student.

Ahh okay I think this is a simpler problem + solution. Is your symbol that contains the walkcycle a Graphic or Movie Clip? I suspect it is a Movie Clip and therefore you will not see the animation play in the parent timeline. If it's a graphic symbol you can scrub/play the parent timeline and see it play.
IF it IS a Graphic symbol and the nested frames still won't play, then it is set to Single Frame on that 1st keyframe. Select the symbol on the main timeline and look in Properties Panel > Loop

You might want to try the Sync option.
- Select the entire range of keyframes THAT HAVE a classic tween applied
- in the Properties Panel, make sure Sync box is checked.
- If you need the very last keyframe synced, it will not have the classic tween applied by default, so select it, apply classic tween, then select sync to sync this keyframe also.
What does Sync do? It literally syncs the nested frames with the parent frames.

This didn't work for me: ( I think the issue is that the keyframe for the classic tween at the beginning and the one at the end that moves it across the screen has all the drawing keyframes in between them, so it just jumps to the classic tween keyframe after the last drawing keyframe

Ok. So I understand correctly, you have a layer containing a symbol that has a nested walkcycle. But on this same layer you have keyframes for individual drawings also? Are these keyframes for indivdual drawings referring to specific frames in the nested walkcycle symbol? Very difficult to understand how you setup your document and what your intention is - if there's anyway of uploading the FLA somewhere I'd be happy to download and take a look.

Sorry I’m doing a poor job of explaining! I have a walk cycle nested in a symbol. And I want to make it walk across the screen with a tween. At 17:00 in this video Walk Cycle for Character Animation - Walk in place or walk across - YouTube is where my issue occurs, when I have the symbol in the main scene and extend it, with no other key frames in it, it only plays the first frame of the nested cycle, instead of playing the nested cycle.

It was movie clip, not graphic. For some reason I thought it had to be movie clip. THANK YOU so much for all of your help!

Cool. Glad we sorted it out. Movie Clip symbols will play but only when published in the Flash Player. Their timelines are also independent of parent timelines and therefore will not be in sync. So Graphic behavior is what you want moving forward if your nested animations need to be in sync with all other timelines and if you want to be able to control the nested frames in any way other than using actionScript.
