So I'm fairly new to Adobe Animate so excuse me if I get a few things wrong here.
I am using a fairly older version of Adobe Animate (2021 Version 21.0.6) since someone had this before me but I am trying to edit a spritesheet and all of my brush strokes are just disappearing! Is there a way to fix this? Thank you!

OML I FIXED IT! I NEEDED TO TURN ON OBJECT DRAWING MODE!

you're trying to edit a bitmap?
if so, click modify > bitmap > trace bitmap.
experiment with different settings until you find settings you like that are usable.
then you'll have a vector which you can edit in animate.

I figured out that editing a spritesheet normally wont let me use the brush tool but I'll look into that and see if it works. Thanks.

Well it won't let me go into trace bitmap.

is it a bitmap? ie, did you import a sprite sheet into animate?

Okay I have just imported and trace still doesn't work but I noticed that it is moving my brush strokes behind of said character. Is there something I have turned on or something?

I also noticed that when I press the middle mouse button it shows my brush strokes outline but it isn't there.

i'm not sure that makes sense, but if you're happy, that's ok.

honestly neither do I. I have been looking through tutorials but none of them included that. But I'm happy as long as I have it fixed.

I know this is 2 years old, but I just had the same issue, thank you!
I looked into what Object Drawing Mode is and I really don't understand why you need to turn this on to prevent from drawing underneath other objects, but perhaps it's because the other vector on top is an object so you need to draw an object for them to interact correctly?
Animate is a great program, but there are many quirky and janky things like this that no tutorial explains (that I've found). Apparently, Adobe is notorious for not updating it often enough.

actually, there are a lot more complaints about adobe apps being updated too frequently.
